The Alan Rogers Site books also list the sites that rent out their own statics.

We bought our first caravan after realising how much these companies charge for statics etc in school holidays!
Canvas have a good reputation but they're not cheap. Give me my own van any day!

Going with Eurocamp we've noticed you get what you pat for to be very evident on some sites.
Often Eurocamp have their own "streets" and are all neatly together, well placed (very evident in Spain), but the key camp/canvas are often just scattered about or put into pitches left over.
there's more freedom to book odd sites with eurocamp too.

Nah, they're usually very nice. Parc playa Bara and one in l'Esartit are landscaped/terraced.

Thanks everyone for all the fantastic advice, i think we will be taking our own van if we do have to go in school holidays as this seems the cheaper option but at least by looking on some of the tour operators websites i know what is on offer.
Im still unsure which are the best areas for the weather, from what i have read Brittany seems to have the more unsettled weather, is this correct and what about Normandy, Vendee regions?
Sorry to keep asking all these questions but want to make sure we get it right.

Vendee has its own microclimate and particularly the southern vendee can be very good in terms of weather. However weather anywhere isnt 100% guaranteed, weve just been to the loire where weve never known really bad weather in august and it rained every day for a week.Completely unexpected and very much unprecedented so we were told!
People staying in the south that we knew had travelled all that way down and it was still raining!

This year we stayed just north of Royan and the weather was brilliant. We did have 2 wet mornings but after lunch the sun came out and set of for the beach.
This is the furthest south we have been and the best weather by far. We have previously stayed in the Vendee.

The further south, the warmer it is. You do get some amazing thunderstorms at night occasionally though.
Again though, if you cross the pyrannees (sp), you can see by the landscape that it's much drier and sunny.

According to the French Met Office the best weather is to be found in the Drome - over 300 days sunshine per year. I can certainly vouch for this July and August - 40 minutes rain in 3 weeks. But the Mistral can be "interesting," especially in a tent.
The further away from the Atlantic, the better the weather usually is.

we used sites aboard this year and found them very reasonable, although know we could have got a cheaper price if we had booked independently, the main reason i used them was we were taking our own tent to france for the first time and i only booked the week before we went, so wanted to make sure i hadn't messed up booking!!!
