Hello

Has anyone any recommendations for this area in France and also any good campsites. I usually look for 4 star sites but have never been to this region before.

Thanks

Ann

We stayed at Neydens, Camping La Colombiere - although this is a few miles from Annecy its good for the Jura's too. http://www.camping-la-colombiere.com/gb1.html I did a review of it under French sites

If you like Switzerland its 5 minutes from Geneva too.

I'm pretty sure there are lakeside sites in Annecy and if you've never been it's a fabulous place.

Have a great holiday

We noticed a couple of campsites when we stayed at Doussard two years ago. Beautiful area with breathtaking scenery and not too far to do the cable car up Mont Blanc....was brill.

Happy Days.

Camping La Ravoire at Doussard was lovely when we stayed there a few years ago in July.  I really liked the area but due to the altitude it gets very cold at nights.  During the day it was about 32oC but at night it dropped down so cold that some nights when I got up to go to the bathroom there was frost on the ground!  This would not be a problem in a caravan but in the tent I was freezing so take warm pyjamas and a heater.

Just back from La Ravoire - great site, well organised, not too big and very clean loo block. Also has a nice pool with water slide into separate pool, small restaurant/take-away and a small shop. The owners could not be more helpful. Lots of English, plus many Dutch and a few Belgians. Not many French for some reason.

The weather in August was a bit up and down - a couple of scorching days, a couple of rain-soaked days and then pretty much everything in between. Philippe, who runs the site, said it had been his worst year ever weather-wise in 14 years - climate change again?

Lots of people return year after year and book the same pitch a year in advance - it's that good. The location is great. About 12 km from Annecy, so away from the horrendous traffic and quite easy access to the big mountains. There is also a 'beach' at the southern end of the lake which was really nice - shallow, warm and clean - about 10 minutes away. There is a cycle track which runs right past the site and all the way to Annecy. Night time is very peaceful - so much so that we could hear every snore of the bloke in the tent down the way.

There were quite a few sites in the vicinity, but I would imagine that it would be hard to find a better one than La Ravoire! We are sure to go again, perhaps next year.

If you are going to Lake /Annency, & decide to go to Mont Blanc/Chamonix, it is worth reading this thread about my experience this summer.
