Just back from La Ravoire - great site, well organised, not too big and very clean loo block. Also has a nice pool with water slide into separate pool, small restaurant/take-away and a small shop. The owners could not be more helpful. Lots of English, plus many Dutch and a few Belgians. Not many French for some reason.
The weather in August was a bit up and down - a couple of scorching days, a couple of rain-soaked days and then pretty much everything in between. Philippe, who runs the site, said it had been his worst year ever weather-wise in 14 years - climate change again?
Lots of people return year after year and book the same pitch a year in advance - it's that good. The location is great. About 12 km from Annecy, so away from the horrendous traffic and quite easy access to the big mountains. There is also a 'beach' at the southern end of the lake which was really nice - shallow, warm and clean - about 10 minutes away. There is a cycle track which runs right past the site and all the way to Annecy. Night time is very peaceful - so much so that we could hear every snore of the bloke in the tent down the way.
There were quite a few sites in the vicinity, but I would imagine that it would be hard to find a better one than La Ravoire! We are sure to go again, perhaps next year.
