We are thinking of camping in the Dordogne next summer, it will be our first trip to this region.

We have two sons ages 8 and 11 who love kayaking and swimming, can anybody please recommend a nice quiet campsite for them and their parents who like to enjoy a peaceful glass of wine looking at lovely scenery?

Any advice would be much appreciated, there seems to be so many to choose from.

We went here this year and it was great.  Quiet, no bar and only about 10 mins from Ceynac and one of the numerous canoe hire places.

I have written a review on it as well in my profile.

For me it has to be Soleil Plage. Right on the river, great bar and terrace from where you can watch the sun set on the cliffs. Camping area well away from bar/pool. Dead end location in fields. easy access to Sarlat and lEclerc.

have a look at my gallery images - the 2 inland ones are at Sol Plag.

Its busy and not cheap but the busier it gets the less effort you have to put into being the entertainment for the lads.

hi we have just returned from dordgone last week aug first week sep, at le moulin de la pique in belves.

dutch run site very clean nice pitches good pool. tends to be mainly dutch, few brits, belgians.

first week was busy second week we were the only ones who dared keep our 3 kids 7,7 & 8 out of school for the 3days they missed so we had the pool to ourselves pretty much.

its about 5 miles from the actual river dordogne , belves is a gorgeuos little medieval town with some great restaurants , 5 course meal for 18 euros

within 30 mins drive there are lovely caves with stalagmites and tites. good canoeing. castelnaud nearby great castle high up on the hill. domme is a town up in the hills with a panoramic view which is amazing. overall plenty to do but site is a nice place to relax on.

not too many brits which i like although the ones who were there were nice, no footie shirts.

i dont think i would go to dordogne in high season though as the villages are all so tiny that it must be a nightmare.

anyway all in all a very nice place that i would recomend.

If you want a dordogne holiday then camp by the river -
it makes life so easy when you have all your gear on hand without having to pack a car or worry about having a drink at your picnic on the beach

have a look at this one - lovely situation - although I've not stayed there

Hi we went to le paradis this year for ten days and loved it it has plenty for the kids but still nice and quiet for a relaxing holiday. Did kayaking absailing rock climbing and loads more.

The family who owned the site couldn't have been more helpfull and has best toilet blocks i have seen.
