Dear All,

I am going camping in France in 2 weeks time.  My car is just over 10 years old and I'm having trouble finding cheap breakdown cover.  I'm a member of the AA but they want £89 for 10 days.  I could get cover through Brittany Ferries but because the car is older they want an extra £20 - meaning £60 instead of their advertised £40.

Any recommendations?

It costs me £84 per annum for Saga's Premier annual breakdown cover ... which includes Europe - so all trips abroad and in the UK are covered.  European cover is for vehicles up to 16 years old.  So, that's just 23p per day and covers me for any vehicle I'm in.

If you arrange short term (holiday) cover it's bound to be expensive as you are selecting insurance just for the riskiest period - but £6 per day (a decent bottle of wine or two in France!) doesn't seem too expensive for such a risk.

For those who expect to holiday abroad each year in future, annual cover is a sensible option as it's not much more that a 2-weekly holiday plan and gives UK and Europe cover 365 days a year.

There are comparison sites available on the internet and individual companies: just Google for holiday breakdown insurance europe.

I get annual breakdown cover through quoteline direct for £59 which includes euopean cover.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.  Should I enjoy my 1st time camping I will definitely take out the yearly cover that you've suggested.  Going to check out the other suggestions now.
