It costs me £84 per annum for Saga's Premier annual breakdown cover ... which includes Europe - so all trips abroad and in the UK are covered. European cover is for vehicles up to 16 years old. So, that's just 23p per day and covers me for any vehicle I'm in.
If you arrange short term (holiday) cover it's bound to be expensive as you are selecting insurance just for the riskiest period - but £6 per day (a decent bottle of wine or two in France!) doesn't seem too expensive for such a risk.
For those who expect to holiday abroad each year in future, annual cover is a sensible option as it's not much more that a 2-weekly holiday plan and gives UK and Europe cover 365 days a year.
