I am going to book the Portsmouth- St Malo crossing for next summer, can anybody recommend any nice campsites in that area of Brittany?

Try posting in the camping abroad section you'll get lots of advice I'm sure. You can also use the campsite search for France too. Sorry I couldn't be more help. Good luck finding what you need, Claire

MJ68, can I ask - are you thinking of a stopover site or a site for your holiday? There are lots of lovely sites in Brittany. If you tell us a bit more - i.e. do you want a quiet site, or one with lots of things for children etc then we can be of more assistance.

Claire

We have a baby so we don't want to constantly be pitching and striking camp...so perhaps somewhere for a week. We a re looking for quiet but tolerant of a baby boy.

We go to La Vieux Chene when we want to stay near St Malo. It's about a half an hours drive away at most, just outside the gorgeous little medieval town of Dol-de-Bretagne. It's a family campsite, very clean and well run, good pool and baby pool, big pitches with lots of shade. (I'd request a shady pitch for a young child.) It has baby bath facilities and good washing machines as well. Good all round campsite.

Domaine Des Ormes (reviews here) is also near Dol-de-Bretagne. It is a Castels parc with a lot of activities on site and only 20-30 mins off the ferry. This was our very first stop in France and we have been back every year (to France!) If you've got a sat nav, let me know and I'll send you the LatLong for a great beach.

OK just read the latest review, but I have to say we were tenting and had a great time and our (then) 2 year old was not disturbed so neither were we :)

Just wanted to add that when I'm looking for a french campsite I look for one with around two hundred pitches. This usually guarantees a pool, washing machines and a small shop and/or bar/modest takeaway. Once you get up to 500 and more pitches, there will be a lot more on site entertainment and this will up the potential noise level. Good for older kids, of course, but with a baby boy you might not feel the need for a on site disco.

Hi, we were in the St. Malo area just a few weeks ago, and stayed at a lovely site, just outside St. Malo, at St Jouan de Gerets - Camping Le Petit Bois.  A really nice site with big pitches, good pool complex (indoor + outdoor) with baby pool etc, restaurant and takeaway.  Also very close (walking distance) to a very large Cora hypermarket, and excellent link road onto the motorway.  We spent 12 nights, and still found loads of places to visit in this lovely area.  Had a baby with us (not ours, but our friends) and there is a baby bath etc in a good, very clean wash block.  Some of the best staff around too, so all in all highly recommended.  Bookable through the CC or CCC or they have a good website -

www.ptitbois.com

Hope this helps!

I can also recommend Camping Le Petit Bois.We had 5 nights there in August.Super pool complex.Flat level pitches.Good restaurant and takeway.Mixture of French,Dutch and Brits.Close to Mont St Michel.Loved the old walled town of St Malo.
