Hi all

Has anyone stayed on this site in Bidart?  Does anyone know direct site contact details (not through a tour operator)?  Anyone know when August 2008 hols will be on sale here?

If it is the one at Argeles, we stayed there a few years ago, but as Val A says there weren't any pitches for campers, just lots of statics. Lovely site though with a fab pool complex at the top of a steep hill with great views. Got very busy though and there were lots of people doing the laying out of the towels thing - my pet hate. We personally found Argeles just too busy so probably wouldn't go back to that area - gave up twice trying to get into the town in the evenings. Had a lovely trip on the little yellow train into the mountains though and a fantastic day in Spain at the Aqua Brava water park at Roses.

Val A - yes that's the one.  I have looked at so many sites they are all merging into one.

Do you have any direct contact details so we could book mobile homes direct with the site?  What did your son think of the site as a whole?  Any mobile homes to avoid?

He loved the site, and the area, and said the food in the restaurant was excellent - and he's got a lot of experience of French sites, having camped with us for about 17 years!!  The site is quite steep and he came home very fit after cycling up and down the hills to the Canvas mobiles!   Pitches are quite small and to us the site looked quite crowded, but it had a super pool area at the top of the hill and the toilet facilities were very clean.  You're a short walk from the beach at Racou Plage, which is at the quieter end of Argeles, separated from the hustle and bustle by a port area in between.  Collioure, which is nearby is lovely.

I'll try to get any other contact numbers from him, and any more details of pitches to avoid, etc.  I know you used to be able to book through the La Sirene website because there are three sites which work together but having looked at it today it isn't allowing any reservations at Bois de Valmarie so don't know if they still offer direct booking.  There are many different tour operators there - Canvas, Eurocamp, Keycamp, Siblu, etc., - and it may be worth checking prices with them all as you can sometimes get bargains!  Try Leisure Direction, too, as they offer 'remaindered' holidays at Bois de Valmarie and when my son was looking at going this year I got a very good price for a mobile through them (he didn't go anyway, due to problems with his car!!).  Also Camp4less offer discounts at Valmarie - but none of them seem to be taking bookings for 2008! 

I have these contact numbers Tel. 04.68.81.09.92, Fax : 04.68.95.80.5 - but never used them as we used to ring him on his mobile and I don't know whether they go through the La Sirene site first!
