Hi all

Thinking of next years' hols, and after having been to France a couple of times, we'd like to go further afield to Italy.

We're going for 3 weeks and would like to spend a week or so near Venice, a week near Rome and a week near Pisa.

Does anyone have any suggestions for campsites?

Thanks in advance

Lesley

There are lots of campsites near Venice mainly in the Cavalino/Ca Savio area, lots with direct access to the beach. If you are not bothered by the beach then I would suggest Camping Miramare at Punta Sabbioni which is only a short walk to the ferry for Venice. If you stay at the other sites a bit further away there is a very good bus service along the main road. Many years ago we stayed at a campsite in Pisa called Torra Pendante which is in walking distance of the town. It tends to be use for shorter stays. I suppose my advice would be to decide how much time you want to spend visiting the famous places. If its only for a day I would find a site further away. I am sure you will get plenty of suggestions. Whilst I have been to Rome it was not with the caravan but if you get the opportunity try to visit the Sistine Chapel.

As David says, there are lots of Camp sites on the peninsular from Jesolo to Punta Sabbione.   Many are on the beach and if you want to combine a beach holiday with visiting Venice then try one of these.   We have only stayed at Ca Savio but know that several others are recommended by members of this and other forums.
As for Pisa.   In our opinion, Pisa itself is only worth a day visit.   Move out of the 'Field of Miracles' and there is little else worth seeing.   Torre Pendante (five minutes walk from the tower) has been revamped in recent years and is now equipped with good toilet blocks and a pool.   Avoid Marina di Pisa unless you like VERY noisy sites and beach discos until 4a.m. at weekends.
Rome has many sites within a short distance of its centre.   Many are within walking distance of public transport or they provided transport into the City (at a cost)The site we like is I Pini at Flamino. Good site and facilities with a bus into the city daily and a pool in which to recover on return from the hard pavements of the capital.

-------------
Enjoy yourself.   Whatever you're doing!!

Slightly further afield from Pisa, but can heartily recommend Camping Aqua Dolce in Levanto, great for visiting the Cinqueterre.

Many thanks for your replies. Rostrevor - definately will avoid Marina di Pisa as the one thing we really don't like is noisy campsites with discos etc every night - much prefer the peace and quiet!

All of your suggestions are greatly appreciated. Any more would be good too!

Thanks again

Lesley

Near Venice we camped at camping Oasi which we enjoyed a lot. That was about 4 years ago. This year we staed 3 nights at Camping Fabulous just outside Rome and close and not far from the coast but with very good public transport into the City. It is a site with some very impressive facilities e.g the Shower/toilet/wash up/laundry block is the biggest and one of the best I have come across.

P.s to my previous email - fabulous had a Queen tribute band playing outdoors whilst we were there at the same time as the outdoor ballroom dancing . Quite surreal and not particularly quiet! Oasi is very much a family site so can get a bit noisy... Both visits were August though.

Sorry didn't read your last comment properly!
