Hi, we had a great hol in jard sur mer vendee this year, great weather great beaches and nice people, but oh didn't like the 8 hour drive, so we are looking at perhaps Picardy for next year. I have no idea what the climate is like or the area , so would be gratefull if anyone can help. Also wondered how far from calis is  brittany or the loire, many thanks

Went twice this summer - once near the coast and once inland.

As with everywhere else the weather wasn't the best this summer, but both sites were good. Depends what you are after really.  the beaches around Le Touquet are great - vast expanses of sand.

Inland, we found a reasonable amount to do as well.

What sort of holiday are you after?

Have friends in Eastern Brittany, and it's about 5-6 hours, West coast will be further. Loire gonna be around 5 hours at a guess.

Have a look at our weather forecasts. Most days Picardy is the same as Kent.

We went to the Loire this year; it took us about 5 and a half hours from Calais to Stu and Syb's place nr Saumur (including breaks, so maybe 5 hours driving). We could have done it from home in one day I suppose, but I like to take things easy, so we overnighted at La Bien Assise and were down in the Loire by 2pm the day after our crossing.

I've only ever been to Brittany from the western channel ports (Cherbourg/Le Havre and Caen), which IIRC takes about 4-5 hours down to Morbihan?  It's a lovely area, although the weather can be rather like Cornwall, southern Brittany tends to be better bet for sunshine. I've had holidays there where it was 110 degrees for 3 weeks, and holidays where it was overcast and a bit stormy.  It really does depend - but next summer surely has to be better?!

If the shorter drive is the important thing, why not look at Belgium?

We stayed at  Drancourt, St Valery in Picardy this summer. It is an easy drive from Calais, about 1 1/2 hrs and mainly motorway. There is a good variety of beaches both stone and sandy, Le touquet the best golden sand beach.

The site was good and clean with excellent toilet/washing facilities.

Sadly we had a vary bad experience with Eurocamp but have since bought our own tent and will be returning to the site.

We did an overnight stay there - and there are lots of reviews on this website - http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/results3.asp?search=Berny+Riviere&by=town - they actually have coaches to take you to Disney.  I was impressed but it's difficult to give a proper impression when you've only stayed one night.  We had a friendly reception (late arrival!!), an excellent pitch, the toilet blocks were first class, and we had good food in the restaurant (Ok a bit 'Happy Eaterish' for me)!

Lots of Brits on site, and LOADS of statics but the pitches for tourers looked good to me (separate area for overnighters, which is good as you don't disturb others when you leave early).

Seems to get good write ups, but not been there. Try Parc Asterix as well - far closer than disney and you can exchange Tescos vouchers for entry. My 11yo absolutely loved it.
