We are taking our pennine pullman folding camper to france next summer and are trying to work, fuel costs and tolls. Can anyone please tell me if you get charged extra when going through the tolls with a folding camper.
Thanks

hi
i think someone said on here recently that if you go through the automatic credit card booths it doesn't pick up the unit on the back ~ however, i always thgt that uk credit cards didn't work at the french tolls or in automated french petrol stations.
does anybody know if this works?
thks
mike
I don't recall getting charged extra with the trailer last year - same price as always.
I've used my UK CC at tolls and it was fine, Fuel stations are getting better as the chip and pin technology gets more standardised across Europe. I would still be wary of HAVING to get fuel out of hours with automated only pumps.

Uk credit cards work ok at peages both manned & automatic-its instantanious--there is no need to use cash even for the smallest amount--I'm guessing any trailer less than 2 mtres high will go classe 1 rate(car) the sensor detects anything over 2 mtres high (car/caravan or motorhome) & charges classe 2 rate--
It depends on the Peage as some said car and caravan (so we just paid as if we where a car) and others said car and trailer (then we where charged for trailer) you can use UK credit cards as some of the peages are not manned but the do not take maestro.
We drove from Le Havre to the Loire this summer with our folding camper and I am pleased to advise that you won't be charged as a caravan - most just charge for a regular car whilst a few will charge a minimal fee for having a small trailer (class 1).
Yes, the peage will accept UK cards.

Provided your Gross train weight is less than 3500 Kg and your height is less than 2 Metres you are treated as a class 1 (ie car) at toll booths. You don't pay extra for the trailer.
We went to France this year with trailer. do not remember being charged any extra for it though, best way to travel in France is the toll roads. had lovely journeys both south and north this year using them. not as busy as M5 and M42 last Friday though ha ha
