Is this a really busy site?  It will be the first time we are taking our tent to France and we are looking for somewhere without too much entertainment at night (not too much noise), and decent sized pitches.
It is not a all singing and dancing site, they do have some entertainment it might be line dancing one night,  lotto the next but it isnt every night  and it normallly finishes before 11pm, but they do clamp down on noise after 11pm, a group of teenagers were outside reception  ( last year ) shouting and the owners came rushing outside and told them to be quiet. As for the pitches, dont go up on the top field as there is no shade ( cant remember the numbers ). It is a lovely run site,  the owners are very helpful, and also it is in the countyside. Hope this is some help

As mentioned, have a look at Domaine la Foret.

Small site in the grounds of a Chateau. Very low key all round. Entertainment on 2 or 3 nights a week, other than that just the bar and then well away from pitches. Loads of space for children to play and 2 pools plus a baby one.

You just have to pick your pitch carefully as some are in total shade.

I only ever do Portsmouth to Caen, prefer to have less driving.

Same here. It doesn't have to cost that much more. You need to do a lot of shopping around. I understand that LD Ferries from Portsmouth to Le Havre offer a good service for around £250.00. I've never used them 'cos their sailing times have never suited us.

Have a look at La Garangeoire. Really nice site and good mix of nationalities. Beach is about twenty minutes away but a really nice site.

Personally I'd travel overnight on ferry and pay the extra money. It will probably cut your journey down by a good 200 miles if not more

Fab site. IMHO one of the best in The Vendee. A member of the Camping and Castels Group - the French equivelent of Best of British.

Why don't you contact Select Sites to handle the whole thing for you? You may be very pleasantly surprised.

Last year, booking independently would have cost me around £850.00 excluding insurance. I booked through Select Sites and got exactly the same for a tad over £600.00 all in. The company have inspected every site in their brochure and they are really nice, efficient people to deal with. I cannot speak highly enough of them.

Their web site iswww.select-site.com

We once went to Camping du Jard. Not a bad site except the woman serving in the takeaway forever had a fag in her mouth with long ash hanging precariously from it and a dirty bandage on one of her fingers.

Yuk! Things like that put us right off I'm afraid.

Hi,
We are going to the Vendee next year staying at La Yole. We are sailing there from Portsmouth > St Malo and back via Caen > Portsmouth. The CC Club came out the cheapest by far. We leave Portsmouth at 20.30 and arrive at 08.15 in the morning and sail back from Caen at 23.30 arriving at Portsmouth at 07.30. The CC have allocated spaces at La Yole with Hook up, Water and Drainage.
