Hi
We were there last year, for the first two weeks of August (the main Dutch weeks).
The site is big, and laid out really well, and as Ninjas Overloaded says clean with good facilities. If you pre book, your pitch is allocated according to the age of your children, so the play areas near your pitch caters for the right ages.
The onsite shop is basic, but has all the usual stuff. There are a couple of huge supermarkets Aldi/Cactus/Netto etc all within 10 minutes drive in Mersch. The restaurant serves decent food at reasonable prices, and the staff are multi-lingual and friendly.
As we were there for their busiest period, they lay on extra entertainment, we went to a Monster Truck show and a small Circus that were in an adjacent field. There is also a good sized pool (gets crowded at times) and tennis courts etc, even a skateboard ramp for the older children.
When we were there it was 99% Dutch, they even pulled the English childrens entertainer because my daughter was the only English child. And contrary to opinion its not just English Teenagers that cause trouble, the games room was shut regularly because of damage.
The only other thing we found strange, was an "Enviro" key, preloaded with credits for hot water in the showers. If you use over a set amount, you pay to top it up. We only used about half the credits, so its a fairly generous allowance.
Larochette is the nearest village, and has a few Bars and a really good Chinese Restaurant, but is a good uphill trek back to the site.
We found Luxemburg more "French" (for French read laid back) than we anticipated, nice people, lots of trees and scenery. We weren't well blessed with the weather but still managed to find plenty to do.
You could do a lot worse than Birkelt.
Cheers
Paul
