I have never taken my caravan abroad and have no idea how much it costs to take it on a ferry to France. I would like to go to Brittany with my family.(two adults & two children) in the six weeks school holidays.

Hi Gary, Welcome to this site. We go from Hull to Zeebrugge with the car and caravan and 2 adults and this year we paying about £400 mark that includes meal and cabin on an over-night crossing, the cheapest option is crossing from Dover, but then add to that your fuel to Dover and back and maybe an over-night halt both ways and it soon mounts up. Or you could consider a Portsmouth crossing which is nearer for Brittany but then you have the same problem as Dover, miles and fuel, no matter which crossing you choose you have a fair bit of driving to do from the north east, we prefer to pay a bit more and cross from Hull, it's better driving on the other side than it is in this grid locked counrty. Take look at P&O web site to see what suits you. Best of Luck

Stu

Hi Garry & welcome,
Have you looked at the websites for the differant ferry companies ? you can get a quote online from most of them. Brittany ferries seems the most expensive but will get you nearest ,LDlines is cheaper & will get you into Le Havre , the cheapest route is Dover to Calais but its a long drive.
We don't tow a van & I'm sure someone will come along with more indepth info soon ,but to get you started try Brittanyferries.co.uk   LDlines POferries.com hope this helps happy holidays

If you are a member of either of the two main clubs they are always worth a look. Got some really good deals with the Caravan Club over the years. Also the clubs can arrange everything for you, ferry, insurance and sites if you want.

David

I was going to say as above. If your a family start buying your fuel at tescos. If you shop there all the better. We will go for free in our motorhome in January and August due to tesco points. When in the south of france we spoke to someone whom had gone to santanda for free using tesco points. Now thats some going considering that its £800 ish to use that route.
