My 1st message and I am already asking for advice! I am racing at an ironman distance triathlon in a place called Roth about 30Km south of Nuremburg in july 2008.
Having got back in to camping we have decided to go as a family, wife an 4 kids, as a ready made support group. However I am struggling to find any camping advice/sites in Germany - particularly near Nuremburg. Can anyone give me any pointers please?
Thanks

The Eurocampings website lists lots of sites in Bavaria, with one listed at Roth - http://www.eurocampings.co.uk/en/europe/germany/bavaria/camping-waldsee-111113/. It's definitely a good source for information about campsites throughout Europe - with links to the website of the site itself if one is available. Also the Alan Rogers guides are a good source of information about sites - you can usually find them in a reasonable sized library.
The thread in this topic 'Continental first timers' may give you a lot of help regarding other aspects of camping in Europe and is a good place to start for information.
Don't know if you speak the language, but Nuremberg is one place where we encountered a bit of negative English (British) response. Not in general, but there were elements thereof, even thoughj I speak German. Mainly the place is really interesting, and the people were OK. There are many things to see and do, No doubt within your sporting group you will have no such problems. If you get chance to eat , try the battered carp , or mushrooms which are local specialities, washed down with a white wine. Good luck in your event.
Hi
A few years ago we went to the Xmas markets in Germany, Nurenberg was one of the places we went to. Outside the town, there is a campsite, which is fantastic. I've found details on this website, it is in English and gives all relevant details for the site. However, the site's own website is German only.
WEbsite: http://tourismus.nuernberg.de/v04/pub/index.html?navID=en121&poolID=228&IDS=lX3T9xYr
Got a typically very efficient reply from the campsite suggested by ValA with what appears to be a very reasonable rate. 2 adults 4 kids large tent and EHU - 5 nights for 200euro.
The contract is currently with a translator (a mate of mine) to make sure that my understanding of a 2page letter in German is correct
Thanks for advice
Stu
