Had been planning first two weeks of July in the Dordogne at Soleil Plage. However, would it be worth going for the middle two weeks to incorporate the 14th July celebrations?? (if there is availability). Was initially going earlier in the month to avoid the crowds!
Also Huw, is there any plots at Soleil Plage that I should be avoiding/requesting? And thanks for all the previous info!

Do you need a 3 bed mobile or will 2 do? Or are you thinking of a Chalet? Do you want to be overlooking the kids play or want a view of the walnuts/grapes/peaches in the joining field?
We love 106 - last year we were considering if we were going to do it again when a kid cycled up and said 'We are staying in that one next year' - quite shocked us - fortunately they didn't want weeks we wanted but they did want the start of the hols so it may already be taken.
Plan is here http://www.camping-soleilplage.fr/plan.pdf
106 - 114 and 57 - 60 are all next to fields.
Chalets seem all equally nice to me.
Location is stunning - handy for Sarlat etc but at a dead end right next to the river.
You will want inflatible toys, fishing rod, diving mask, water shoes for pebble beach [not required on sand].
can't comment on July - always there in august
In addition to canoe decent kids liked this

Gosh, thanks. We were thinking of a three bed just to give us a bit of space, but a two bed would be fine. Is 106 2 or 3 bed? It doesn't differentiate between them on the map. It would be nice to keep an eye on kids playing but these plots can be noisy? I guess quiet in the evening is priority as our three year old doesn't have much staying power and sleeps quite early (so far!). I believe eurocamp are on site, are these the unit numbers followed by a letter?
Is there much of a current on the river? We have an inflatable kayak and were deliberating on whether or not to bring it. Would kids be safe in dinghies? If so brilliant. Seven year old will love that!
Questions, questions, but thanks again for all your help!
106 is a 2 bed. The play area is not noisey - its not a shouty sort of site. Eurocamp are certainly on site but sorry - I don't know the meaning of the letters. Kids do like to 'stay up' on these sites - there will be kids running around at strange times - many continentals take it easy in the heat of the day and reemerge revived for the evening.
The current is a fascinating matter - Just above the site is an island - I have walked to the island and kept my shorts dry some years and last year I couldn't get there apart from going up stream, jumping in and swimming for it. At the top of the island, between it and the far bank, are 'the rapids' - great fun in a rubber ring. At the sand beach the current is very gentle. Our kids have used an inflatible kyack for several years - If you go up by the island should they lose it they wash up by shallow bit at the bottom of the pebble beach. It is a common site to watch peole float past alongside their canoes - its not a concern.
No worries about the questions - it brings back happy memories to answer.
Pool should not be overlooked for kids to meet kids though - and it was luxuriously warm even in the poor summer this year.

I was in the Dordogne for Bastille day this year and although I was too busy with work to go out, I remember there were celebrations in Carsac and I'm pretty sure Sarlat as well. Think its a good area for 'guarenteed' celebrations.
Cheers

We where in Sarlat on the 14th of july this year what a lovely day we had they had a street market untill 2 pm then had a big parade later on. We sat in a resturant in the main square and just watched the world go by they were having a live concert at night and fireworks but we had to leave as kids were getting tired we will be going back to this area this year but a week later but we think Sarlat is a great town. There was also a fun fare, and vintage car show.
We drove into Sarlat and found a parking soace no probs about 5 mins from town centre a lot of people say on here how busy it is and allthough it was busy it was a very relaxed atmosphere.
We have been at Sarlat for the 14th lots of times and it has always been great!. I have not been on the 14th, but I have been assured that the display at Domme, overlooking the river is quite spectacular also.
