Can anybody give me some background on Portiragnes Plages in Languedoc. There doesn't seem to be much in the way of reviews on here. We've booked for next summer with Eurocamp

Went there in the summer of 2000. Nice site but probably the largest site we've been to. Entertainment area is by the entrance and quite a way from the pitches. Best camp shops I have seen anywhere. You have direct access to the beach. Everything was clean and well organised. Traffic can be a bit of a headache but in my opinion the area is worth it. Plenty to see and do in the immediate area. If you need any more info, just hit my link below.
Thanks for that, I have had a look at the website and will consider it. What do you reckon to the size of pitches? I assume that don't play the music on the website over loudspeakers on the campsite!!!!
Not when we were there! For the size of the site it was surprisingly quiet, especially at night. Our pitch was quite large. on it we had our 16' x 16' tent, a pup tent, the trailer and the car. Still left plenty of space for a good sized lounging area.
We stayed at this site with Eurocamp 5 years ago. The site was nice, good shops and resteraunt/take aways. They are very strict about the no swimming shorts rule.
However, our pitch was directly in front of a large playing field area. This was fine apart from the nights there was entertainment on the field. There was an open air cinema which was VERY loud and a circus a couple of nights which again was loud. It went on till quite late. I suppose it was a problem for us as my daughter was only a year old at the time.
If I remember correctly Eurocamp had pitches in other areas of the site so this maybe something to bear in mind.
Apart from the noise the site was great and had activities to suit all three children (2 teens and 1 yr old).

we are going back to les sablons for the 8th year this summer. Our children have all enjoyed it over the years & there is a good range of activities for all age groups. The pitches vary in size & shade, but some are very big. It is not part of a chain & still feels like a campsite not a "holiday parc" as eurocamp like to describe them, thou' it is big.The camping area is well away from the bar & is quiet at night. We have met several people of all nationalities who go back year after year which maybe seen as a good recommendation. I just like not having to take the car to the beach, getting on my bike & riding round the site & down the canal & sitting outside the tent with a glass of wine or beer- can't wait for next July!
Thanks Fiona....do you know if you can hire bikes on the site. We are fly driving but the kids have always had a bike with them to mooch round the site?
We stayed there in 2004 with Keycamps in a static.
I have to say it was a great family site, kids had plenty to do, easy walk to the beach, fantastic swiming pools.
Already booked a pitch only with Eurocamps for Les Sablons next August - can't wait.....
We all really enjoyed the drive down from Caen as well. Stopped over night in the Loire. The changing scenery driving through France really is fantastic.

We are also going with Eurocamp in August but fly driving to Toulouse. I dont mind the driving but wife hates it!! What are campsite restaurants like and what about things to see nearby?
You can hire bikes from just outside the site & they are great about mending your own bikes too.
My brother tried the campsite restaurant & wasn't that impressed thou' it seems busy. The take away is fine- all the usual pizza's, frites etc & crepes, which my youngest son & his cousins love. There's lots of restaurants within walking distance of varying quality; we had our 25th wedding aniversary in one 2 years ago (makes me feel very old that!).
We spend a lot of time bike riding as the traffic is very busy, especially in July & August when we are there. But if you can get away early, once you get out of Beziers, its much quieter. Pezenas is a favourite, as is Roquebrunne & the Gorges de Heric in Haut Langeudoc National Park. But most of the time its the beach!
I've stayed at Frejus on the Cote d ' Azur and remebered that the pitches were very hard and gravelly so I assume that being in the southern end of France the ground is quite firm. I assume the answer to your question will be "rock pegs"
