Almost an impossibility a quiet campsite in Port Grimaud mid August!!! Mind you it will depend on you definition of quiet. Camping de la Plage apart form a shop and a restaurant does not have any other facilities that create noise. It would also depend whether you wanted to be near to the beach, there is a choice of three. There is a campsite about a mile from the beach up in the hills a bit which might be quieter. There is another one on the inland side of the N98 but actually nearer to Port Grimaud. Its a super area but is very, very busy from June through to September.

You're just about in the livliest part of France in terms of quiet campsites!  I don't actually think you'll find anywhere quiet in that area at that time of year.  All the coastal sites are busy, traffic is frantic, and the whole area around the Gulf of St Tropez will be buzzing.  If you can go just a few weeks later - at the beginning to middle of September then things will be completely different - many of the sites will be very quiet and you shouldn't have any trouble finding a pitch.

You might find a quieter site in La Croix Valmer (just over the hill) or in Cavalaire (again just over the hill).  There are two sites here which accept Camping Cheques the last week in August, suggesting things are quietening down - they are Selection Camping in La Croix Valmer, and Cros du Mouton in Cavalaire.  You're less than five miles from Port Grimaud, and generally in a quieter part of the coast.  These sites will cost only £10.30 per night for two people, car and caravan - not bad for sites on the French coast!

My husband and I have stayed at Holiday Marina  times over the last 5 years. It is very clean and well located to walk into Port Grimaud. The only downside is that its on a busy road however you can't hear any traffic noise from the touring pitches.

Look at www.holiday-marina.com

Have a look at the Camping Cheque website: www.campingcheque.co.uk - then click on 'our campsites' and the map of France, then the bottom right hand quarter of the map.  Each 'dot' on the map is a campsite - and the two mentioned are to the right of Toulon on the map.  When you click on a site you'll see a page which lists the key features and tells you towards the bottom when the site accepts Camping Cheques, and other special offers.

I stayed for six weeks in La Croix Valmer (where we have friends) from the end of August to the middle of October, and mostly I had lovely weather.  We had one torrential thunderstorm, but otherwise you should find it reasonably settled, and very warm still.

If you've any problems come back to this forum.

We used to run a charter yacht out of Port Grimaud in the early 70s.   When we went back recently it was not so different apart from the road trafic.   If you stay on a beach camping like Prairies de la Mer you can still get the   same as long as you leave the car parked.   Our favourite part of France for holidays.

Val thanks for your support on the PC forum (JamesFrance).
I knew I was going to wind them up a bit.

Have you considered Domaine Des Naiades? I've put a review of it on this site (which I've just now read and found unfairly negative-sounding!). It's walkable to Port Grimaud, the best route being via Praries DLM and along the beach. Note that the site is a long way from where the map link on the review page puts it; blame Microsoft.

Relative to other sites in the close vicinity it is quieter and more spaciuos. It also has a large domain at the top end which is mainly unused, but has some pitches losely marked out (albeit with no hook-up etc)- maybe enquire about that if you do want some peace.

TT.
