Hi R
You are on a Hull/Zeebee thread, so if you are looking at tunnel try other threads. Re Hull , normally Sat/Sun are the cheap nights, caravans go free, so I suspect a motorhome will also reap some benefit.. Shop around for prices, usually the Caravan Club amongst others have an advantage, but not always, so you have to do a bit of homework.
There have been other discussions on here re the merits of Hull/Zeebee vs Rotterdam. Personnaly though the boats to Zeebee are a bit older, the food and facilities are better, so for Belgium etc, I would go via Zeebee.
September is a perfect time to go through Belgium to the Mosel or Alsace. The tourist trade is closing down, so hopefully everyone connected has made their money for this year, and are ready to relax a bit after the high season. It is a fabulous time to see the Ardennes, late Sept, the trees are just beginning to take on the beautiful Autumn shades, particularly in a late afternoon sun.
In the Mosel, and Alsace the grape harvest is in progress, or if you are late, has just finished, and then is absolutely the best time to be in say Riquewihr to sample the first pressings of the new harvest.
In general Luxembourg/Mosel/Alsace are great to visit in summer, but for me the best time by far for this region is in the latter part of the year, preferrably Sept/Oct.. You cannot go wrong anywhere in the region.
Watch out for low flying storks, and enjoy.
