Hi everyone

Has anyone stayed at this Indigo campsite on teh Ile de Noirmoitier?  It looks just our kind of thing, nice and unspoilt would like ressuarance.  We are planning a visit in August with our Pathifnder.

Does anyone have any suggestions for safe sites for family of four with children aged 5 and 7?

Thank you

Don't forget if you go to Noirmoutier, you have to use the toll bridge and they charge in high season - unless you are brave enough to chance Le Gois!  We have visited N a few times in our visits to the Vendee - not sure I would want to be there for a fortnight though. Have a look at Angela Bird's "Guide to the Vendee" - there are lots of places to choose from both on the coast and inland a bit where it is a bit quiter - the Plage Parc at Bretignolles is brill for young children as is the Lake at Apremont. We have exhasuted the Vendee in our kids' eyes at least as we've been going annually since 94 - time to try somewhere new! But I still yearn to go back - maybe in a couple of years when the kids have flown - if only!

Are you sure you are not confusing this with the tollbridge to get to Ile de Re? When we went to Noirmoutier last June we didn't pay anything to go over the bridge. Also, I've just checked the website for the island, and copied the following:

One can also access the island by a bridge spanning 600 metres that is open day and night (free of charge). This bridge was opened in 1971.

We only ended up staying 1 night, as last June the weather at that time was just awful. In better weather I'm sure it would be a nice island to explore, but with driving wind and rain, it was such a desolate place that we decided to move on and try again another time.

Up until 2 years ago a toll was charged for the summer seaon.During our last visit in 2006 the tolls were being demolished.

Sorry, I'll stand corrected on that - it would have been in 2005 or 2006 we last visited Noirmoutier!

Hello,
we work in the vendee in the summer, that is my partner and myself the parc is actually called parc des dunes and is a fantastic place for younger children and adults too, most of the attractions work under your own steam, which is quite good for the child of today what with computers and crazy fairground rides a lot of children have never seen things like merry go rounds, peddle cars, seesaws, lots of others too, waterslides also, you can buy food,or take your own, there are two campsites nearby, two you can look at, camping des dunes, camping la chaponnet, as usual there are extensive beach areas within easy reach,i believe there are peddle karts for adults too have fun.

The Palge Parc is not the same place as Le Parc des Dunes - it is slightly further out of Bretignolles. The Parc des Dunes is more like an amusement type park - French safety standards are not as stringent as English, we found - opposite a HyperU on the outskirts of Bretignolle - the Plage Parc is further along the road and then turn right - it is posted, It is just a man made little parc - sand , small dunes , plenty parking,  great fun and safe. A great thing to do is the Velo Rail at Commequiers - just up the road from Bretignolles - you can find it on the Net - we got to the end the last time!!

I am beginning to regret booking elsewhere - I love the Vendee!
