Hi there! We're hiring a tent on Lake Garda at the end of May and on the way back to Calais we wanted to stop off for a day and night somewhere en route to break the journey up. Looking at other posts it looks going via the Brenner Pass in Germany is a good route (??) but where would be about 1/2 way, time-wise, that would be a nice place to stop and look around without going too far off of our route home? Any ideas?

Hi Nicola, if you go via the Brenner Pass, Austria, Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium the journey is about 830 miles. About halfway is Pforzheim and just below this is a very nice Campsite at Bad Liebenzell.

If you go via Milan, Switzerland, Germany, France, Luxembourg, Belgium the journey is only about 750 miles and halfway would be near Strasbourg. There is a very nice site at Obernai just down from there.

Phil.

We drove to Lake Garda last year, stopping in a hotel as a little luxury in Luzern on the way. Not really a detour and Luzern is a fantastic place to visit.

Enjoy your trip whatever you decide.
