Has anyone heard of this one or been there. Would rather have a recommendation. To summarise looking for a site near beach/town/cycle/touring pitches & rental properties and not too large.

Looking at Arcachon area and particularly this campsite for the family holiday this year.  Camping in tent, kids are 2 and 5.  Has anyone been to this campsite or any recomendations for others nearby.  Thanks

Not sure about that one, but there is a strip of campsites along the road behind the dune - competition is tough so they are all ok. Be wary that these get very busy and booking is essential - we just turned up and had to queue with near on a 100 people the following morning - and then could only get something for a couple of nights.

That said it is an amazing spot

we got lost in Arcachon last August trying to find some motorhome parking and we came across the site you mention. I didnt like the look of it tbh, quite a way from the sea and nothing of interest within walking distance.

We were really hoping to stay at Camping Panorama at Pyla sur Mer but couldnt book as they only take bookings for 7 nights and we only wanted 5. Of all the sites (we had a nosy at them all) I liked this one the best. We couldnt get in unless we accepted a pitch in the car park (for the same price as a normal pitch) and then every morning we could hope a pitch became availble for us to move to. We decided not to bother and ended up at Les Ecreuils at Biscarosse which I can recommend (only negative was some road noise depending on which pitch you were on). We really like the area.

We also stayed at another site in the area called La Cigale at Ares. The whole area is lovely.

Agree with pager 33. la Cigale is a little tucked away gem. Don't be put off by the entrance drive, the owners are very welcoming and can't do enough for you. Small pool, but wasn't crowded in June.the town(whose name escapes me !) has wonderful big market, I think on Thursdays , within walking distance of site. Cycle tracks everywhere, bike hire right next door to site, (just leave passport with them).Nic ebig pitches. Within easy drive of Arcacchon, Dune de Pila and all little seaside towns in area. Good boat trips from some of these towns. Bordeaux best visited by train from little station (again can't remember name!) about 20 minutes drive away. Tram from there into centre. Lovely city for a stroll.

Thank you for your replies and suggestions; La Cigale looks good.  There are so many sites to choose from, struggling to make up my mind.  Am tempted by some of the lakeside sites to the south but they appear a little busy and entertainment a little late into the night.

Thanks again

Nick

Nick, La Cigale is lovely although the pool is small and cold. The owners are one of the nicest couples I've ever met.

We did experience late night noise from a neighbouring site (couldnt work out where but think the noise echoed round the lake!) when staying at Les Ecreuils at Biscarosse last summer. Tbh we had a bit of a laugh about it as one night it was karoke and it was horrendous. We could hear it in the motorhome and I do remember lying next to OH and us giggling as it was so naff and a bit surreal. It all went quiet at midnight and wasnt every night. Our 10 year old daughter slept through it all. The site itself was very quiet at night. The site has a lovely pool that would be great for a 2 and 5 year old and the beach is only a few minutes walk away. I love the area, its great for cycling.

We have also stayed at La Rive which some on here love but we found it too big and we had horrendous neighbours which probably affects my opinion on the site.

I'm trying to think of some other sites in the area that may suit you.
