Hello everyone...at long last I'm nearly ready for the off!

I was wondering how many stops to allow driving from Calais to Almeria?

Never having embarked on such a trip i would appreciate some advise from you seasoned campaigners so i can plan my route/book sites.

Would 250 miles a day be a reasonable distance?

Towing we probably do slightly more than 250 miles a day (and have done up to 360) - so this would be quite 'do-able'.  There are some posting on here who have done that sort of journey in two days - so I suppose it's what you feel comfortable with.  If you reckon on 250, though, you can 'meander' a bit more and make the journey part of the holiday - stopping off for a picnic, perhaps, or finding a nice market to wander around.

Depends on whether you are towing, tenters or motorcaravanners?

If you need to stay on campsites, at this time of year your itinerary and where stops are needed can be decided by the route and what sites are open when driving down through France.

We are driving from Calais to Vilanova Park starting on the 17 February and as we prefer to stay on sites it has been quite difficult finding suitable ones that are open.

However we are stopping at the following, Forest View, L'Esperance, Dorceau, 230 miles:, Camping Beausolieil, Bordeaux:, 328 miles Camping El Molino, Mendigorria,Pamplona, 210miles; reaching Villanova Park on the 20 Feb which is 291 miles.

We shall be using motorways where possible.

we drove to nice, and had 1 overnite stop at macon, 350 miles a day on the motorways is possible as thay are virtually empty, but i suppose it depends on age,vehicle,experiance...
