Domaine du Château de l' Epervière
Anybody been to this site. Would you recommend it for a family of 4 - daughters aged 12 and 11 in August?
Is it as good as the Camping Books say?
Any advice welcome.
Many thanks

We stayed there for 10 nights year before last. Absolutely wonderful. one of our best sites ever. 2 pools ,one undercover so if weather bad it's fine. No shutes or slides though. Lots of open space when we were ther late June beginning July. WONDERFUL bar/restaurant La Halt Nautique,10 minute max walk across fields away, just ask at reception, on edge of river Saone. Great owner, Marc Fontaine, used to chef in NY so good English and fantastic food, very reasonable. Can also get ther eby bike , again ask at reception, sit there watching river cruise boats go by...great sunsets. Macon good for shops. Tournus interesting town, both have ngood markets.Cluny with it's ruined abbey very interesting and shops!Lake nearby for swimming ,Base de Loisirs. Great hill , can't remember name, nearby, might be Mont Romain, with wonderful views. Wine tasting in the chateau is great fun and wine is good and not expensive, Thursday evenings I think. Bigger towns nearby and vineyard hopping. Eurocamp and Canvas there so likely to attract families with children I would think.DO go to La Halt Nautique though. Follow the wine routes and go through Chardonnay!!We never tried Chalon sur Saone but I think you can get boat trips on river there. Saone is a VERY wide river!
Hope you enjoy..let us know !!

This is one of our favourite sites, but our view has always been that it is wonderful for 'oldies' like us, or for young families, but would be less confident of recommending it for families with older children. If your 11 and 12 year olds are happy to hang out with other children of the same age, use the pools and watch the wildlfe, then they will be fine, but if they require much more, then you may be subjected to some moaning! The Halte Nautique is a superb spot to sit and watch boats and fishermen, but it certainly would not have provided what my children were looking for in the way of entertainment. Only you know your children, so only you can judge whether this is the right place for them. If you know that they will be happy there, I can heartily recommend the site.

We've also been looking at this site and according to the brochure looks really spread out, with the camping area a long way from the pool and facilities - is this the case? Cannot walk long distances and don't want to be stuck a long way from the pool restaurant etc.
Any comments appreciated.
Janet
Its been a few years since we have been but the pitches are in two areas. The ones you want are in the immediate vicinity of the Chateau where all the main facilities are. The other, larger, pitching area is a bit further away. If you book it might be best to ask for a pitch near the Chateau.

David,
Thanks for this. This is what we thought.
