We are a group of four families (8 adults + 10 young children) that are looking for a GREAT campsite. We are all experienced campers. We are looking for a site where we can pitch four large (8 berth) tents - preferably in an area that is not divided by hedges or where there is at least the opportunity for us to have a common eating/playing area. We would like a site near the sea (direct access if possible) but also with a heated pool. We would prefer NOT to have much else by way of entertainment and would like the site to be quiet at night.

If you know of this perfect place and are happy to share it, I would be most grateful  . Alternatively, if you know anywhere that comes close to our ideal, we would like to know too! Thanks in anticipation.

There's a great area in the campsite at Chateau des Ormes at Dol de Bretagne - in a 'paddock' in the woods, which would easily take your tents, and more besides, in a secluded area overlooking the cricket pitch immediately behind the Chateau,  with red squirrels running over your table and playing around in the trees overhead.  It's a big and busy site, but you'd never know it from your pitch.  It appears to be very popular, so you may need to know the pitch numbers and book if you want to have the whole paddock (sorry can't remember them, but we stayed there with friends a  few years ago).  It doesn't have direct access to the sea, though, but there are lovely coves a few kilometres away.

I'm sure there are others, but most other French sites we've stayed on in almost every area of France have individual pitches, hedged between, and so these may not suit you.

We've stayed here a couple of times. It seems to be under new management as the website has changed. Its a nice site. Not direct beach access but either a short walk through the cornfields or you can drive. There is good parking at the beach and we tended to do this as the walk back up is fairly steep.

We were pitched in a hedged area with four other units. The pitches were huge. It would be ideal for a group as you would have the whole section to yourself. Its the only site we've stayed on in France that has this type of pitch. All the others have been individual hedged pitches.

It looks like the pools are now heated, which they weren't when we were there. There's a shop on site- fairly basic but good for essentials. There is entertainment laid on in the small bar area near the entrance to the site but we didn't hear any noise at night.

Take away service is good. The beach is gorgeous and the surrounding area is very pretty.

Only problem really is the weather. You can't guarantee sunshine in Brittany even in August.
