If you're not towing, then mappy.com reckons it will take you 4 hours 38 minutes (that's driving time, not journey time - ie not allowing any stops).  It's 452 kilometres, and will cost you around 48 euros in fuel, and 22 euros in toll fees.  You can ask mappy to plan your route and print out the map.  If you're towing, then it will take longer, and cost more (32 euros).   There are lots of service areas along the way - the one at Baie de la Somme is a good one to stop at for a 'comfort stop' and there's a tower you can climb up to look at all the wildlife in the Somme estuary.  It's quite a straightforward route - take a look at the posting about Calais to Cherbourg as much of the route is on the same roads.

If you are solo, I would suggest you think around  51/2 hrs min, unless you are one who "never stops". You can go through Rouen, which costs less in tolls, but usually takes longer than going via Pont de Normandie, ( and you miss the spectacle of the bridge). Very much dependant on the time of day and day of the week, but the ring road round Caen can be busy, which would also affect your times.

If you are towing, I would definitely suggest you think about breaking the journey after Le Havre, which is about 31/2 hrs from Calais. There is a municipal at Honfleur which is just after "the bridge", if you can get in.

Thanks for the information, we are towing a caravan and were just out side  Honfluer last year when we used the Newhaven/Le harve route and we are still thinking about using the samev route this year and staying near the port for the night and then traveling on next morning.

Gary

Gary

JUst put a post on the thread started by Juanita, with an alternative site in the region of Le Havre. If you fancy a change, it is worth a try, I have met a number of people on Le Brevedent coming from or going to Granville, so it may be your kind of site. It is heavily reviewed on here, so you can get a good impression.
