Hello, we are looking for a site near to the port which we can use at the end of our 3 week holiday. Does anyone know if one night stops are possible at many French sites in August? We are first timers in France with our
own equipment.
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
We stayed at Camping Domaine Catiniere last year which is about 30mins from Le Harve, its in both club brochures this year and has reviews on this site. The site has a small pool, bar which does food and the faclities are kept clean, it is only a short drive to Honfluer.
It's also a good side to enter Le Havre from, avoids the main roads. There's a large car park with fairground rides and chippy / kebab vans on the sea front as you enter the suburbs to the East of Le Havre, which is a good place to stop for a couple of hours before the ferry.
We also stayed at Camping Domaine Catiniere for one night last August on our way back from Royan. It was an ideal site for a stopover, clean showers etc and a small shop. There were quite a lot of statics on the site, but it still seemed quiet. We booked it thrugh Select Sites.

is Foret de montgeon still on the go ? stayed there years ago about 2 miles from the port if i remember rightly.went through a far size tunnel in the city and came out the other end in like a wooded park area where the site was. im going back 25 years now like but very handy if its still about.
If you are sailing from Le Havre, I suspect you are late afternoon, so no mad rush in the morning. Depends what you prefere http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=6938 may be of interest, It is an easy 40 mins to Le Havre, there is a restaurant if you don't want to cook after travelling, a play park to keep young children amused, and a failrly restful sort of place in general. They can be full in early August, but if you are interested book your night(s), Even when "full" they will often squeeze you in if you are desperate.
If you're travelling from South or West France, a handy stopover is a very nice municipal in Vimoutiers, Normandy http://www.mairie-vimoutiers.fr/html/tourisme.php which is just over an hour from Le Havre.
