Thinking this summer of going to Poland with our caravan, possibly to Krakov, and would like any input from members as wether it is worth going due to possible concerns with things like polish roads, drivers, security etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Rob

I know our next door neighbours went there because their son went to see locomotives and even had a go driving one.  She never mentioned any problems that they had.  They were in a motorhome.

You might be better posting this on the Caravanning and Camping Abroad forum.  Here are some previous responses to postings on that forum about Poland - hope these are helpful.

Hi Rob

I drove there a few years ago on a driving competition.

Their major roads are good, but once off them you take your chances. We were in a fully fitted out Discovery and came across potholes (craters) and all manner of surfaces that you would be hard pressed to call roads.

The fuel stations are the same as ours, we got maps from the major suppliers, Texaco, Shell, BP, Q8 etc and had no problems. We ate at quite a few of their services.

The drivers in the main cities are nutters, also watch out for trams in Warsaw, they don't stop for anything.

The Polish are friendly enough, prices are generally lower than here, but unless you are in the Metropolis don''t expect shops like ours.

We were warned that the Polish Police are very heavy handed with unlucky motorists, but fortunately never had to test the theory.

If you fancy an adventure, and a long, long drive, go for it.

HTH

Paul

The 2008 edition of the Caravan Club's "Caravan Europe Volume 2" should give you the latest information that you have requested.

we went to camping krakowianka in krakow in 2006 and had a great holiday we entered poland from germany at a place called cottbus and for about 1 hour could only travel at about 25 mph because the road surface was terrible with big potholes, one stretch was cobbles like on coronation street, but after that the roads were ok.we came back a different route crossing into germany south of cottbus via dresden a bit longer but better roads. when we went the exchange rate was about 5 zloty,s to the pound, if you go on a bus or tram the fare was 2.50 zloty,s if you bought your ticket from the kiosks or 3.00 zloty,s if you paid on the bus or tram, you have to put your ticket in a machine as soon as you board the bus or tram to activate your ticket and there are plenty of inspectors checking peoples tickets but you don,t know who they are till they show you their id card which is hidden round their necks. it does,nt matter whether you go 1 stop or 21 stops it is still the same price. their driving can be a bit erratic but then so can the french and spanish. we tried some traditional polish food such as borsch (beetroot soup) gorgeous, and bigos (mushy stew)  hope you go and enjoy it as much as we did can,t wait to go again if you want any info i,d be happy to help
