Hi Just been looking at the reviews for campsite around Annecy which are really helpful. But I wondered if any one had stopped at Camping le Plan du Fernuy or Camping L'Ideal as they both look like nice sites?

Campin L'Ideal. Although I haven't stayed on the site I have took a short cut through it when we got lost on a walk. we stayed on a small site further up the road.

The site is quite large with what seamed like good facilities and a large swimming complex. It had a restaurant which could be quite important because of it's location. It's set back from the lake on a quiet country road which runs adjacent to the main lake side road. Because of this reason i think the site on the whole will be less busy than those alongside the lakeside. The lakeside is about 1/2 mile away with a ferry landing stage that takes you to Annecy. The nearest large town for provisions is Doussard which is at the end of the road the site is on. From where you turn of the main road to L'Ideal (Bredannez) you pass a further 4 sites. One of which is Camping La Ravoire, a site that has good revies on here but it's a very popular and busy site especially in high season. If you are going outside of main season then I think you could just go and turn up at any of these sites. But a different story in high season.

Great thanks for that. We are going in June so plan to just turn up but I love planning it now as it gives me something to look forward to.

Where did you stay, just out of curiosity, and would you recommend it?

Stayed at a site called La Taileffer which is on the left at the top of the hill. It is CC recommended. As sites go it is fairly small and unpretencious. Facilities were fairly old but spotlessly clean. We prefer that type of site to all singing and dancing type sites so thats why we chose it. It has two types of pitching area, one flat and the other sloping, not good for tents, but this part of the site had fantastic views over the lake and mountains. If you want somewhere more quiet and relatively cheap then yes I'd say its ok. Something more lively then look elsewhere. All these four sites I mentioned are fairly close together on this road so you can take your pick. If you want something a little more central then there is a site in the middle of Doussard a little further on. The location, although quiet, is fairly central for touring. You can get to Annecy or the other side of the lake fairly quickly.

just stopped last week at plan du fernuy. not a bad site. pitches are a bit rough, but they have had a lot of snow. ideal for skiing from the site. a swim pool which looked quite nice, quite adaquate i would say. i booked a chalet on the site.

Thanks runone I thought that Plan du Fernuy would be a bit stoney and was worried about ripping a hole in the tent or footprint, so managed to persuade the OH to stop lower down near Annecy. The site looked lovely though if I had a caravan/motorhome or wanted a chalet I would have gone there.

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=7480

We stopped here for 2 weeks, Camping L'escale in Le Grand Bornand.  It is about half an hour's drive out of Annecy up in the mountains but the scenery and surroundings are fantastic.

The site was very busy in the June of 2006 because they have placed mobile homes on the rally field and the rally was moved to the main field, but I would imagine that wouldn't happen again as they would only take bookings based on who they can accommodate taking into consideration the loss of the rally field.

There is a pool that isn't very deep but lovely for aching legs after a walk and has sun loungers around it.  Wifi access was really cheap compared to the UK at £7 odd a week.  Lovely food at the onsite restaurant that also does takeaways.

Easy access to lovely mountain villages and we drove to Italy via the tunnel.

We tried to find a campsite on 5th August while we were touring France , Austria and Slovenia - we hadn't realised that it was the Festival of the Lake in Annecy and all the campsites were full. The helpful owners at camping La Fleuris let us stay on their car park for a minimum fee with access to the facilities. It looked like a nice site but everyone was so close together, it was better to be in the car park!

We have just booked L'Ideal in August, looks like a great site that fits all our (plus kids) needs, although it has been quite a difficult choice between lots of good sites.

We have decided to stop at L'Ideal too. There are too many there to choose from as they all look great. Will write a review when we return at the end of June.

Thanks for all your comments!

Try this site at the far end of the lake, good value and is quiet in early june.
