Hi,

We're planning on spending a week in Alsace, preferably near the Route des Vins, in July and would be very grateful for any recommendations.  We'll be taking a tent and 2 dogs.

Thanks for your help!

Sam

Thanks Swanseajack - Camping Clair Vacances does look nice, but no mention of dogs!  I've emailed to see whether they'll accept them or not.

The municipal site also looks good - do you know whether you can have electric on tent pitches or only for caravans?

Final question ... has anyone tried CAMPING LE SCHLOSSBERG http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=6363?

Thanks for all your help!

Sam

I saw plenty of dogs when we were there last year. Don't forget your Camping Carnet......it's a "must have"!

A site I used 2 years ago is ideal for the wine route. Camping Municipal Pierre de Courbretin at Ribeauville only 3 miles from the main road and just north of Colmar. The site is in a quiet location right on the edge of the town. The toilet/shower facilities were excellent. The site itself was broken up into bays with between 4 and 8 pitches to each. There is a local swimming pool just a few yards from the site. The town is very picturesque and is only a few minutes walk. There are several restaurants and a excellent selection of shops. The location for touring the wine route is ideal, it's on it and right in the middle.

Camp Municipal Pierre-de-Coubertin, Rue de Landau, 68150 Ribeauville [tel: 0389736671]

I would agree that the Municipal at Obernai is brilliant, English speaking staff who are very helpful. A Park is adjacent and swimming pool/lido 200 yards away. Obernai is a lovely town and has a good Supermarket, shops, bars, restaurants etc. The wine route drive is good. Also recommend a visit to Strasbourg - excellent park and ride tramways that take you right into the centre for super boat trips. Visit Mount Sainte Odile, Haut Koenigsbourg [Castle], National Motor Museum [Schlumpf Collection] at Mulhouse. Alsace is a lovely area - great wine.

Just in case it is of any help to others ... I've had a response from Camping Clair Vacances - they don't accept dogs.

Alsace is a beautiful part of France - with some excellent wine (Gerwurtztraminer.....mmmmmmmmm).

Places to visit include Strasbourg  Colmar  and Munster (look out for the storks nesting on the chimneys !)

Sam, I'm surprised to hear the camp's response. There were 2 families with dogs within 50 yards of us last year.

Many sites ban dogs in the high season when there are lots of kids around.
