There's a chance I may be able to get the 20.55 ferry which will dock at 23.25 French time
Does anybody know of a site near to Calais that would allow a late arrival at about midnight. I'ts just for overnight. Will be heading down the A16 towards Boulogne. Don't mention staying on the docks or aires. I'm not into that.

La Bien Assise at Guines is apparently set up for late arrivals, and only half an hour or so from the port, but I'm not sure about your arrival time - which by the time you disembarked, gone through 'customs' etc., will probably be around 12.30 am. Perhaps you could email them to find out. castels at bien-assise.com

If you dont want to stop at a services you would be better traveling to Dover area the day before & getting an early morning ferry--theres campsites nr Dover that allow early departures for ferries---otherwise you would be ok stopping at the deux caps services on the A16 towards Boulogne-plenty do-I really cant see any campsites letting you pitch up at 1am--unless they have a parking area outside the gate--

It looks like Bien Assise. I have checked my notes and reception stays open until 8.00pm and after that you can book in at the Bar until that closes. When we were last there was a note on reception saying that late arrivals after that could find a pitch and settle up in the morning. If you are not familiar with the site it there are some pitches immediately inside the entrance to the left which you could use. There will be some road noise but you will be so tired by then you won't hear it!!!! I would suggest it would not be a good idea to be driving around the site at that time of night.

I'm booked on the 5.30am ferry but if I get to Dover late evening the day before I thought about going over. That way it would be a more civilised start the next day. I'm getting to old for alarms at 4am
David,
Have just looked at your web site. The pitches you mention, are they the ones in your photo, just behind the pillars.
Thanks for the replies

Yes, sharp left immediately inside the entrance. If all goes to plan it would be useful if you could report back because lots of people ask this question and it would be good to get confirmation the system works!

Will do. Just depends on what time we get to Dover.

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=6353 Just pull on front of site, and pay next morning. Site a couple of hundred yards off slip road to moterway. But no road noise at all. Usually English doing the same thing, a one night stopover. We only use the tunnel now, and it's twenty minutes away from there

I've read loads of comments from folks who do a u turn on leaving Calais Docks and park up overnight in the departures parking area where they have access to toilets and showers but obviously no electric which isn't much of a hardship late at night. They say it's quieter than lots of sites with late arrivals.
But I won't mention staying on the docks to you. This is for others who may not have thought of it. I wouldn't try pitching a tent though.

Im staying at the Ibis calais carferrie hotel can leave van in secure car park and its only 70 euros for the night so can get good nigths sleep and morning shower and breakfast and be on the road nice and fresh
Misterbed is much cheaper. http://www.misterbed.fr/
or http://www.hotel-bb.com/
Cheapest of all is
http://www.hotelformule1.com/formule1/index.html at about E20 per night but loos in Formula1 only are in the corridor not en-suite if that bothers you.
All the above have clean linen, decent beds reasonable rooms with a telly - they receive UK channels near the port. Breakfast is very cheap but obviously you won't be expecting room service and 5 star treatment at the prices. I reckon if you like camping / caravanning, you'll be happy enough in these. (No pool Sauna Gym - sorry) I think they all sleep 2 adults and 1 child in a bunk affair above the main bed.
