Our youngest son has been looking at going to work in Toulouse for 2 years, courtesy of his current employer. I just wondered if anyone had been there or near it, since thats where we will want to go next year. Any input appreciated.

Been through a couple of times. Seems a big modern city with loads to do. Wish I was going for 2 years.

Anywhere in France is a long way from Ayr
We go through on the way to the Med - getting there is easy - good motorway all the way from Calais.

Are you towing, tenting or renting?
Toulouse is about 150 to argeles on the coast at Spain - which is popular or about 50 to Carcassonne - also very popular, but I don't think I have seen many on here that stop at Toulouse itself.

We've friends who live in Toulouse, working in the aerospace industry (well he does, she's a hairdresser) and they've recommended you look at the following http://www.toulouse-tourisme.com/hebergements-hotels,2146,13.  Apparently there's only a couple of sites in Toulouse itself, but the Tourist Information Office may be able to help with sites around the city.

We tow a caravan.Distance doesnt bother us, we just take it steady. Retired too, so time isnt an issue.

Sounds great - I have 2 kids - we hire mobiles - get there quickly, and get back to work far too soon.

We also have friends who work in Toulouse, so we try to go every year. Because of Airbus we can get a cheap flight from Bremen to Toulouse, both towns have Airbus Industries. Our friends, he work for SAP a German software firm, and she works for PSA.(Peugeot). A lot of firms are in or the area, so a lot of work is generated. Although I have never camped in the area, but every time I have flown down, left Bremen in rain and 10°-15°C, fly into Toulouse into 25°C, like going from winter to summer. I know this is not much help to you quest for a camp site, sorry, but I hope your son will enjoy his stay there.

Apparently the A75 is free. I think it heads in that general direction

I wasn't camping at the time, but Toulouse is fine to visit/live. there is a nice old part, and classic French city centre with cafes etc and shady colonnades and nice bookshops.

In the region you must visit Carcassonne, Foix, Pau and Tarbes. You can also be in the Pyrennees pdq, which has some nice small towns/villages in it. had some excellent local restaurants. I really enjoyed it there. Enjoy!
