If you're going at the end of June, like Billy I'd agree that Norfolk Lines are likely to be amongst the cheapest - but you may get a good deal from Speedferries if you're not towing a trailer or caravan.

It's also worth taking a look at the Camping Cheque website www.campingcheque.co.uk, Touring Cheques www.touringcheque.co.uk, or ACSI card, www.campingcard.co.uk - all of which offer low season discounts, which on some sites in Normandy can be right up until 20th July at Camping La Route Blance in Normandy, which is on the Cherbourg peninsula, near Mont St Michel, and overlooking the Channel Islands.  A pitch at any of the sites covered by Camping Cheques and Touring Cheques would cost only £10.30 per night including electricity, two people, tent, car, awning, and a dog if you have one.  ACSI sites cost 10, 12, or 14 euros depending on the 'band' the site is in.

Hi

We went last year as our first ever trip with the caravan and it was no problem at all.

Dont discount LD Lines from Portsmouth as your comimg from shropshire its nearer than Dover and obviously gets you straight into Normandy at Le Havre. A good site near Bayeux is at Martrigny and also near Mont st Michel is at Courtlis. Click on my reviews.

Biggest tip without a doubt is take a sat nav and dont stress about it,  its easier than you think.

Have fun

The cheapest crossings are the night ones but are the most tiring. a couple of years ago friends(4 vans) and my lot left on an early ferry, 6amish after staying the night near to Dover at a CL. Managed to drive all the way to our destination in the day and with 2 first timers. I dont have a sat nav but in law does and they are good. Dont worry about anything, I always work on the notion that something will go wrong and then take it from there. As you will have gathered from this forum it is easier than you think, well worth it. Enjoy.
