You need to give a start time from Calais. But as a guide I am leaving Calais for Sarlat at 8am and making for the town of Salbris, south of Orleans on the A71 for an overnight stop. It's about 300 miles via Rouen and with two good stops I hope to get there by about 4pm.
Camping La Sologne is on the edge of town and is signed. leave the A71 at junc 4 and town is about 2 miles. The site is just north of the town on the N20. You will see a lake on the right the site is visible at the far side.
Thanks Harry dose this mean you avoid Paris? if not how do you get on going around it?. Also how long will it take you the next day to arrive at Sarlat.
Thanks Carol
I only drove around Paris once and I vowed never again. The route I'm taking is A16 south from Calais, A28 to Rouen then from Rouen south on N154 to Evereux, Dreux and Chartres then to the A71 south. I got that route from people on here and it looks straight forward.
From Salbris to Sarlat is about another 200 mile so an early start should get you there by lunchtime.

That's the way to go
Only go into Paris if you know Paris or you want to be in Paris.
Hi, we have done this from Stoke 6 times. For us half way in time is near Chartres where there are tons of motels. This assumes you take the very popular Paris avoidance route of Calais, Abeville, Rouen (stop and see the cathedral?), Dreux, and rejoin the 'via Paris' route at Orleans. It adds about 50 mins to the journey but saves us (car only) about 30E in peyage and a lot of stress!
Use Mappy.com to get the via Rouen route. A lot of it is new dual carriageway but there are some slower single lane sections.

Just out of interest I remember from an earlier post of yours you were undicided on a site near Sarlat. Just wondering if you have decided on one and when you are going.

We are still unsure but having read all the replies we are now looking at sites nearer to the main attractions as one of the site i had picked was a bit out of the way,So we are now looking at Le port de Limeuil which was recommended, La Palombiere or the one I think you are going to Le Moulin du Roch. But as we are going last 2 wks June we were not going to book.
