Have done similar journeys many times - as Val says - it's OK as long as you don't have to put a tent up when you arrive ! We tend to use Formule 1's or similar.

We usually travel from St Aygulf & stop overnight at Gigny sur Soane before traveling onto calais, this is pulling the van, hovever a few years back did St Aygulf to Calais in one hit, albeit solo, but wouldn't recommend it unless it was an emergency.

St Aygulf to Gigny sur Soane takes about 6 1/2 hours, Paris is about 3 hrs further on!

We do the same kind of journey once or twice a year Calais/Frejus - Frejus/Calais.

Takes us about 11 hours with minimum stops for toilet and food. We share the driving and find it easier to do it this way as we have young (ish) children and drive as far as we can during the night while they are asleep. Gets harder when they wake up but they have been doing this journey since they were tiny babies so are quite used to it.

So no I wouldnt say that you are being overly ambitious but it isnt everyone's idea of fun.

I should mention that we do not tow.

Many thanks to you all for your replies - we are staying in a mobile home just South of Paris so we won't have to bother with setting up etc. once we arrive.Not towing as we are taking our tent + top box.   Must admit it does seem a long way - I thought it was more like 7 hours in the car rather than 9-10 hrs!!   I was trying to avoid a stopover if possible as we are staying near Paris for another 3 nights.  Will have to have a re-think possibly.  Does anyone know that,if we leave the campsite in St Aygulf a day earlier than planned, we will have to pay for the night we don't use?? We have booked for 13 nights (only paid standard deposit with balance payable once we arrive) - do they tend to hold you to what you have booked or are they quite flexible?  First time using our own equipment so not too sure how it works.

I suspect its unlikely they will agree to that and I expect they will want you to pay for the time you have booked because they could have turned someone else away. The journey you are proposing is possible in one day, especially with a solo car but that depends alot on the traffic which can be very heavy not only along the coastal motorway but also between Orange and Lyon particularly in July and August. Had you thought about driving overnight and getting to your destination earlier on the day of arrival?
