Off to France for a couple of weeks in the summer all booked through the caravan club. They have sold us Red Pennant at £159 for motor and personal. Is this the best way to do it or is there a better option?
Thanks

Had to use red pennant with incident at France/Italy border. First class service and re-assurance at an other wise uncomfortable time. They spoke to the french in french on our behalf! They are 1st choice now always.

2006. With Britannia Rescue. Car had major gearbox problems on the way home in Belgium. We were put on caravan site & car to local dealer. Few days later car supposedly repaired - only an oil leak. Lasted all of 10km and declared major gearbox problem, as I had said in first place. After a lot of argy-bargy with BR and their USELESS European agents we were given a hire car which we swopped at Calais for another and transported most of belongings home and another hire car at home. Car and caravan to follow later. Much later - after frequent cancellations car and caravan finally arrived home. £1K+ worth of damage to caravan done during repatriation - dents and bashes. It took to the following Easter to get van repaired at their cost after PROTRACTED letter writing campaign. BR never would accept any responsibility for possible extra damage putting car back on the road with damaged gearbox. Gearbox had to be replaced at cost of £3K+
2007. Red Pennant car broke down near Rome. RP provided tow cars to enable us to continue holiday. First car, the biggest that could be taken into Italy, a VW Passat, was a bit underpowered for our 'van was sent from Stuttgart - 12 hours away. Once we reached Germany a VW Touareg was provided. We towed the 'van to Chateau Gandspette with VW T and then a Lhand drive LR Disco was brought over to us at Calais for journey home. As all Vx dealers were closed for summer hols the car was transported home by lorry. More quickly than BR but not without problems. It got "lost" for several days and arrived home with a newly broken windscreen. RP paid for new windscreen and all hire towcar costs.
RP was NOT perfect but a lot better than BR and they got us home safely TOWING the caravan. We still had to do a lot of chivvying along even with RP. RP offer a service DEDICATED to caravanners and that makes a lot of difference.
I would have liked Red Pennant Cover, but for an annual family European Motor (including caravan) and Personal policy, it was nearly £300 ! Even then, they weren't sure if they could cover our son - who has diabetes - or whether there would be an adiditional premium for him.
I have chosen Eurotunnel's Insurance (for which the motoring cover is provided by AA I think).
It was £156.00 for the Annual Family Policy. The cover looks good (in theory!) and covers our lad's medical condition. You do have to have a Eurotunnel booking in order to take out the insurance - it does of course cover you for your non-Eurotunnel trips too.
