Going to Europe for the first time with my dog.  Please can anyone tell me of a good motorhome site, close to Calais, English speaking & that is close to a vet to give the dog the neccessary befor the return journey.

Any assistance much appreciated.

Welcome to the forums Yvonnelouise.

Lots of people use the vet near Chateau du Gandspette, at Eperleques - which is a good site for the required stop-over.  I think they are a husband and wife partnership, find them under:   Paulus Jean, 21r Bleue Maison,  62910,  EPERLECQUES Tel: 03 21 88 46 00 they speak English, and are used to dealing with English dogs.  It's only about 500 metres from the site entrance - near to a useful smallish supermarket for stocking up on last minute stuff.  Gandspette is only about 25 minutes from the car dock at Calais, and there's a nice restaurant on site, which is popular.  Sanitary facilities are good, and kept very clean. Site reception staff speak English too, as do the waitresses in the restaurant.

If you're going between 1st April and 4th July, or between 1st and 30th September, then you could use Camping Cheques for the site fee, which means the cost is only £10.30 per night, inclusive of dog and electricity.

A cheap & popular stopver is right in Calais on the searfront. There is a vet within walking distance & all the facilities of Calais are at hand. Usually you have to make an appointment. The campsite IS signpoisted from the ferryport & within the town. I have stayed there- but 31 it's name escapes me. About 70% of the vans parked up are english. & the overnight/ 2day/ weekly permits are obtained from the ordinary campsite just around the corner. Else what I do now is to work backwards to where I will be 30 hrs from my ferry Xing & find a vet in that location using "pages jaune" before I go. The local tourist information centers are very helpful & in pop. areas have an english speaker.

Hi

Agree with Val.  We used the Paulus' last year while staying at Chateau de Gandspette.  They were very thorough with the passports and dates etc, if a little expensive, and very handy.  Will use them again this year probably.
