Hi, I am planning a trip down through France this summer and was wondering if anyone could recommend a site suitable for a overnight stopover near Poitiers?
Thanks

We stayed on a municipal at Vivonne, just south of Poitiers, last year. Nice big grass area to pitch on with EHU. The wardens (not sure if that's what they are called there) greeted us with fruit juice and sweets for the kids and told us to pitch up anywhere and catch up with them later to pay. 5 mins walk into village/town centre with a few small shops, bars & restaurants. Went in to pick up a bagette the next morning and there was a market on too. Would stay there again but not going that far this year.
We had a quick look round the site at Vivonne when we were camping nearby. It looked very nice and well-kempt, but there were a couple of chaps camped there who looked more like workers than holidaymakers.
We stay at Les Peupliers in nearby Couhé, but this is perhaps more than you need for an overnight stop.
Vivonne, on 1st August, has an evening farmers' market and barbecue. You buy your sausages, venison, whatever and take it over to be barbied at no extra cost. Then you buy chips and a bottle of something delicious to wash it all down. It has been Aug 1st the past 2 years, hopefully it'll be the same this year.

I can thoughorly (2glasses of wine & keyboard dislexia) recommend Lac de St.Cyr. Largish man made lake abt 5km from small town. Has facilities for fishing, canoeing. walks /cycling around lake& a supervised freshwater beach,. It is 20 Km n-e of poitiers. Listed as "Parc de Loisirs de Saint Cyr" I have stayed here 2ce as a stopover & enjoyed the facilities.
