Stayed at Domaine De Chalain for 11 nights in the middle of August this year. The lake is very beautiful and as said before great for swimming in. Temperature of the water is constatly around 21 degrees.
Site facilities are very good. There's a butchers, bakers, takeaway (good food and good choice), pub, restaurant, bicycle hire, laundrette (self service or you can pay someone to wash and dry it all for you!), as well as a few other shops selling leather goods, wooden toys, bags etc. Also there's a good sports/camping shop selling everything from inflatables to swimming costumes to toilet fluids !!!!
The swimming pool comlex which you get a day pass to is very good, with indoor and outdoor pools, plus lots of slides. Our 2 and 5 year olds loved it. The only problem is that the water is freezing! Even in the middle of August the lake was much warmer. So although the kids loved it we didn't stay in long!
We stayed on a site lane called "Allee Ravel" which I would highly recomend. Unlike the usual straight rows of pitches this little road went round in a circle with a playground in the middle and we backed onto a field that led down to the waters edge. (Not to near the water to be worried about the kids though).
The sunsets across the lake are beautiful, and there are some really nice walks / cycle rides around the lake and surrounding area. (Plenty of info at the reception or cycle hire shop).
All in all a lovely site that is very self contained.
On the way back we drove direct to Chateau du Gandspette near Calais. It took about 8 1/2 hours with just 2 small toilet stops in Aires. Most of the route is Payage.
