Hello

We have usually sailed to and from Calais with the obviuos attraction being collecting the wine before our return. Does anyone know if there are such wine warehouses in the St Malo port or have any tips on wine buying in this area.

Also any recomendations on the pre ferry sailing local site stopover.

Thanks Cath and Rob

Find a L'Eclerc or Cora/Carrefour/Intermarche/Auchan and you will get just as good - if not better - a deal as you would in a "wine for brits" warehouse type place. Depends what you are looking for.

Supermarkets always, and not too close to the port. there are lot of "bargains" aimed at Brits on the way back in the wine warehouses.

Look out for earthenware pichets, they come in various sizes to suit your drinking habits. Chill the pichet before pouring the whites, or give the red a chance to air. then you can go for "Bag in Box" which is becoming ever more popular, and you can enjoy some very nice wines providing you are not intent on showing the label. There are now 5 litre  as well as 3 litre bag in box, and the price per litre is very attractive. The boxes fit the car boot better, and don't rattle.

If you don't drink the box at one go, there is no air in the bag, so the wine will keep fine for a long period, provided it is not on the shelf above the Aga.

Camping le P'tit Bois outskirts of St Malo.

There is a Cora Supermarket on the left on the way into St Malo.

Dual Carriageway most of the way in.

As 'themeldrews' rightly say, there is a Cora on road into St. Malo coming in from Rennes. Look for the signs to 'St Jouan des Guerets Centre Commercial' which just take you off the main dual carriageway to Cora which is alongside the road. Next to this is also a Decathlon Sports shop........Further in and when following 'St. Malo Centre' you will approach a roundabout and see large shopping area to your left. This is another centre commercial called La Madeleine which houses a large Carrefour supermarket, accessed from one of the roundabout exits. Finally from same direction, but on the Parame/Cancale side of St. Malo there is a Le Clercq supermarket. I can personally vouch that much wine is sold at all locations, hic!  enjoy
Kevin
