Back to the speedos. I can understand your problem - teenagers are very body conscious and in this country we do have a problem with speedos.
Could he wear the normal baggy shorts to the pool and on the loungers (just like lots of women wear cover ups until they go into the pool) and then take the shorts off and have a pair of speedos underneath just for going into the water.
That has alway been my suggestion but he maintains that he actually spends most of his time going down slides or jumping in rather than actually swimming. Fair comment but I have then said that surely the speedo material actually makes you go down the slides faster. It didn't persuade him!

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

Municipal pools in France display the water temp, and the most recent water analysis, with when it was carried out. if site pool/swimming is a must, it strikes me it would be a plus point if a site did similar. Does anyone know of sites where this is standard practice?

They do at the Etoile d'Argens in Frejus. They have a proper lifeguard too.

Slides - In that case he needs to adjust the trunks so they are between the cheeks rather than over them to get more speed.
Completely uncivilised I know - but kids want speed
Skid marks, anyone? Alan
We go here and the little French boys drop their shorts at the top of the slides. Or so my DS tells me! It din't seem to do his gluteus maximus any harm!
And people were worried about the hygiene implications of shorts! I've gone right off my Oatibix now.

I was always under the impression that neither shorts nor Speedos were supposed to be used as a substitute for toilet paper. Are men and boys really that filthy that they wipe their bums on their clothes? Or is there a latent market for adult sized Little Swimmers out there?

The boys will give them a go if you assure us we will all slide races
