Hi All,  We are travelling from St Malo to Biscarosse (just south west of Bordeaux) and back to Caen either end of our holiday in four weeks.

We have overnight stops booked in England for each journey but we are struggling to find anything suitable on the trip through France.

Whilst we know that some people like to put their foot down and do the 380 miles in one stretch, but as we are towing and have an 11 year old, a 3 year old and a 1 year old on board, we would prefer to stop somewhere around Saintes on the way down and perhaps a little further North on the return journey to give the kids the chance of plenty of stretch breaks.

Can anyone recommend any good sites that might be suitable.  We are not looking for anything fancy - just EHU, decent loos and nice surroundings.

Hope someone out there can help us.

Hi - this website gives details of all sites within 15 km of the main routes through France, together with brief details of each site.  Campsites near main routes.  Most of them are perfect for overnight stops - and because they are adjacent to main routes are used to people only staying for one night.  I'm sure you should be able to find something here - select France, then the route you're travelling, and sites are listed in a 'North to South' or 'East to West' direction, against the name of the nearest town, so it's easy to find a suitable site.

Can't recommend anything personally, as we haven't done that route, but if you find a suitable site in the area you want, then I'm sure someone will have stayed there and be able to give you more information.

How about www.twinlakes-bordeaux.com . We stayed there for weeks last year and we will be there again in 5 weeks and 6 days! Lovely english owners and a lovely site. They have been working on a new toilet block over the winter. The original loos were typically 'french' but always kept clean. Has a good pool and toddler pool and 2 fishing lakes. They are just off tghe A10 near Montendre.

We have done that journey several times towing in one day though we were travelling on a Sunday when roads were quite. Stopped around Reenes for an hour for breakfast and then a short stop just around Nantes and an hour just before Bordeaux, and still got to the campsite at 5pm in time for a swim if you want to drive as far as Bordeaux before you stop I would carry on as Biscarosse is only 45mins once you get off the ring road but it does depend what day of the week you are travelling.

If you want to stop at Saintes theres a nice camping municipal nr the town centre by the river, iirc come off the motorway, head toward town centre(centreville)over river bridge & turn right along side of river, it is signposted, you get a ticket for the swimming pool next door.

To find campsites, just google the name of the town you want to stop at to get the town website & click hebergments(accomodation)to get local campsites, easy to find campsites in France as they are generally well signposted.
