We are a retired couple and have used our old campervan extensively in the UK.  We usually fly to Spain for 2 weeks during the winter, leaving our dog with friends. We want to spend 6-8 weeks in Spain next winter, taking the dog (pet passport OK), travelling down through France at our own pace. My wife uses a mobility scooter which travels in the campervan.  This is fine in the UK where we use a driveaway awning and can offload the scooter once were on site - but it makes overnight stops problematic.  We are coonsidering taking our estate car instead.  This gives us lower fuel costs (50%), shared driving and we can pack the scooter ok.  Does anyone know any sites in Spain where we can hire a static caravan or mobile home?  We have searched several sites but they are all (understandably) no dogs.. If we can't find a campsite we'll have to settle for an apartment

try Vilanova park ,about 20 miles south of Barcelona the longer you stay the cheaper it is , www.vilanovapark.es  we stay there mid December to mid January , lot of different nationalties from all over Europe ,we all saw the new year in together it was a real friendly atmosphere , some friends of ours stay there for 3 months at a time , it works out they get about 6 weeks free , lovely heated indoor pool plus gym and sauna ,all for 3 euros , iof you have a laptop you can log into the sites wifi system for 30 euros a month , we use to log onto MSN messenger and using the web cam we could see and talk to our friends and relatives back home , or we would phone using Skype through the laptop , much cheaper than a mobile

This is probably a daft idea, but could you tow a small trailer behind the camper for the scooter.

Which area in Spain were you thinking about? Mobile homes/caravan renting is a sort of facility many campsites in Spain offer - the really problematic issue is dogs. Camping Olé at Oliva (Valencia) allows dogs, and they rent bungalows: http://www.camping-ole.com/entorno_i.html. And probably, many of the campsites at the area fit your requirements.

Thanks for the replies.  We would like to visit Barcelona again and then head further south - anywhere between Barcelona and Almeria. Another advantage of using the car rather than the camper would be that we could share the driving and day excursions would be easier.  The scooter isn't that much of a problem in the camper - its more all the other junk we cart along.  We would really need to put up the awning even on overnight stops to make room for sleeping and cooking - and it usually takes an hour or so. Camping Ole looks good - we're checking that the dog is acceptable.
