Hi there all, in 6 weeks we are taking our caravan to Vendee for the first time ever, never taken a caravan abroad before, Is there anything you can take from home that is electrical that will be okay ? Been abroad many times before on holidays and quite clued up on some things, I know that in America I have used some things but I found it worked slower, in EuroDisney Paris I almost blew up my travel hairdryer cause I forgot to turn round the voltage switch, I just wondered if the campsite electrics are different, really any info you can give me on our first trip would be very gratefully received, even little snippits  may be helpful. We will be watching that programme advertised tonight about driving abroad for sure.

Thanks

It very much depends on the campsite but the average electrical supply in France is 6amp, sometimes if you are lucky it might be 10amp but even this is not really enough to boil a UK domestic kettle so leave it at home. If you must have an electric kettle buy a low wattage one from a caravan accessory shop. Its a case of watching the watts! For every amp of electrical supply you can use 230watts so a 6amp supply equals 1380watts. Its just a case of looking at the wattage of the appliance, they are all marked. Just make sure you don't use more wattage than you have supplied as that could lead to you going to reception to get the elctrics reset! By the way don't worry about mobile phone, iPods and cameras as they take very little electricity. The things to watch for are those items with a heating element.

There is lots of info on there, thanks. I know it may be a silly question but will I need to drink bottled water in Vendee or will a filter jug suffice or are there no issues with the water?

Oh about the fridge what do you recommend, will mains be too much of a drain, will gas be okay? Just thinking about water heater too, we will not use the shower but hot water is handy, that could be too much of a drain too?.

We just got back from France, it was our first trip too. I was worried about every thing possible! But I am sure you will be fine!!!!

Its so easy, the roads are empty and straight You don't even stop unless you want to.

As for electric, don't worry, long as you are staying on a decent site you should have no probs, I took everything - fridge, toaster, kettle, forman grill, hairdryer, GHD's etc and had no probs at all

We are off again in Aug, to Loire and already planning next year!
