Hi

am trying to book a last minute trip to brittany and this one comes up as a possibility - would you take 3 kids here in a tent for 9 nights??

Thanks

c-mac

We visited but did not stay on this site in June and we liked it .   The owners are working very hard every year to improve it and it has been included in the Caravan Club Overseas Sites Book for the first time this year.

It is terraced so if your kids are very small I would ask if it would be possible to have a pitch at the top of the site which is flatter but further away from the facilities which were very clean when we were there.

Sorry but we were there to carry out an inspection of the site and were only in the area for a few hours but I am sure you will enjoy it. The area was very quiet when we were there in early June so I am sure it will be more lively now.   Please post a review when you get back

I went with my husband and two sons, August 07 and was really disappointed with the site. The toilet and shower blocks were old and badly maintained and sometimes very/ very unclean, pitches are tiny and very difficult to get onto (with a caravan). The site was packed with mainly french and a few brits and dutch. We did stay there for the two weeks that the French take their holidays which would explain the quantity of guests/caravans/cars/tents/vans etc etc. On the plus side , the variety of facilities for children was outstanding, Pornic is stunning and there are plenty of large supermarkets if needed. Definitely wouldn't return. Sorry!

Which all goes to show that we are all different and whether or not you are there out of season can have a bearing on things.    The toilet block was certainly clean when we looked at it in June but on all sites August is a different matter when the facilities on all sites are under pressure.    I certainly would be very interested to hear c-mac and mikes opinions after their holidays.

Hi c-mac

Can't fault the activities that are arranged every day for the children, the pool area is also lovely and the toilets and single shower there are immaculate! Staff were friendly and other campers of all nationalities, friendly and well behaved! So lots of good points! I do have some photos that I can email to you if needed. I've just realised that we went in August 06, so there is a good chan ce that improvements have been made to the dreaded shower block. Also if you are towing a caravan, make sure that you don't drive through Pornic town centre as you won't get through the old town walled entrance. There is a fabulous rocky coastline/beach to the north(I think!) of POrnic, fabulous for your children to pick shellfish etc and to see a huge range of starfish. Well worth a visit. There is also a lovely model village (indoors) in the area ( sorry can't remember where!)which is worth visiting.

Hi

Got back and reporting in - were there for 9 nights, overlapping briefly with the great french summer migration...

without being too graphic - the toilets and showers were actually very clean, even when the place was full...it's just there's something comforting about sitting on a toilet seat rather than straight onto ceramic...had occasional hole in floor ones too.. just for the traditionalists...Plenty of showers at lower block not so many above.

The site is set in a little valley with trees and terraced pitches in pairs going up both sides of the hill.I can see if you have a caravan then you are limited for space especially on the terraced pitches...but the french don't seem to care - many of them had a caravan, awning extra tent 2 cars... bikes  and a gazebo...they couldn't move but...we had a tent half way up the slope and the kids love whizzing up and down the little roads on their scooters (more popular than bikes there I have to say especially on death run 2 as they called it!!)

The facilities for  the kids were great - mobile climbing wall, bouncy castle , minigolf short tennis, basketball, the pool and slides adult gym, kids clubs disco, karaoke night...could order a pizza at the shop...preorder sausages chips whole chicken...change gas bottles...Bar seemed fine for a few drinks - programme of local festivals, markets etc all written up on a white board in the bar..washing machines dryers, iron!!!

Had to use quite a lot of french as I think there was only one person there who spoke any english..but we had a lovely time - very pleasant and also away from the crowds!!! It was like a little oasis away from the rest of the touristy things in the area.

Loads to do - you must try Pornic aventure!! A forest high wire climbing thing. Our 5 year old daughter was on amazing zip wires high above the ground. We were able to all go on together which was a change from the uk. Great safe beach just along  coast from pornic town beside marin. Pornic fab (upper) town to explore..did some pottery painting too. Guerande and salt marshes great to visit...fantastic surf up near piriac sur mer..Loads of go karting quads etc in the area..

Was actually a great holiday and the kids mixed with a couple of other english and french kids..We really enjoyed it - were sad to come home. Would like to explore the area more

c-mac

PS ...Oh if you like shell fish.must go to Pree just outside plaine sur mer (has very helpful tourist office for maps) to at low tide to collect shell fish - the oysters on the rocks were amazing and all the locals are out colllecting different things and chat to you ...the rocks seem to have different zones where different shell fish grow.  There are guidlines and chemical monitoring statistics up on the boards to advise you what to pick.

Glad you had a good holiday.   It is always difficult to recommend sites as everybody wants different things from a holiday.

Hi

Been back almost a week now La Tabardiere was great. Yeah the toilet blocks could do with re-tiling and toilet seats would be nice but they were clean and cleaned frequently. Friendly site and secure, not too many English and the terraces were great to camp on, second week windy and I can assure you the top field was not the place to be camped or with a caravan like my brother's family. Being less protected from wind it was a bit blowy. the area is brilliant as 'c mac' comments above and we would go back. So much to see, St Nazaire over the bridge (that's an experience) and Nantes for a big trip to Les Machines d'iles de nantes fantastic.

Using your French on holiday what a dream better than the mobile home holidayers trying to Anglicise the French. We'd definately go back and try another site. Only because we never go back to the same site. Definate value for money.

Only another 350 days till we can go back.

PS The takeaway on site was good and local hypermarkets were great with fantastic produce. Who needs a restaurant?
