 We will start our first trip camping to France very soon and having never driven on the right before I'm starting to get nervous.Could anyone help with detailed instructions for leaving the ferry terminal at St Malo.and heading towards the D168 and the northern coast of Brittany. I 've looked at some of the 'google earth' type aerial photos but the resolutions are not very good and my Michelin map is not detailed enough for roads in the town. Is there a one way system on the dockside? and lots of roundabouts?   As we cannot pitch in Erquy until 12 o'clock are there any hypermarkets on our route where we could get stocked up or have breakfast?

 my advice would be print a route from aa route planner or from michelin route planner or even both, to compare. dont worry too much you should have others cars to follow. your passengers should help by reminding you to keep on the right and to be extra careful on roundabouts.read your route and compare with you map. motor way signs are the same as here blue. when in towns if you dont see a sign just follow toutes directions. this means through route.  i should think you can even print off a plan of the town and dock area.

if you print a route it will show you the signs and what to look for.

dont worry too much the roads are much better than here and the motor ways almost empty.

if you do take a wrong turn dont panic just use your map and re direct,.

once out of st marlo its quite straight forward.

im sorry i cant help with hypermarkets or stops for breakfast.

You come out of Terminal Du Naye and take a right, follow the signs which say 'Autres Direction' or Toutes Directions' you will eventually see signs directing you to either Mont St Michel or Rennes, for Northern Brittany you need the direction Rennes and will have to cross the Rance, either at the barrier of further along via Dinan.  Signposting in France for the larger cities is good but for smaller towns you need to be on guard as they are famous for putting the signposts on the opposite side of the junction!  Whereabouts in Brittany are you heading?  We do it so often never even look at the signs now to get away from what is a small port terminal.
