just had a quote for 10 days in france with the aa £90,does anybody know or recommend any other companies who are cheaper?

I am also looking for cover if you type into google breakdown cover then click the one that compares them maybe moneysupermarket then you can get it for under £100 for the year and if under 2.5t you can get it under 60 for year.

i went with more than. i have my car ins with them and they charged me just 10 pound to add the breakdown cover on to the policy

foreign use extension had to be added to the policy at no extra cost then i had to take out breakdown roadside assistance recovery and european breakdown. watch out for the small print because some policies you have to pay up front and reclaim later. some  they only cover the driver etc...

I have taken out cover with Red Pennant even though it was quite a bit dearer than some others.............For 3 reasons

1. The advice and experiences of members on this forum.

2. I found that almost all other companies put a length restriction on your caravan of 7 metres. Ours was over this length by 7 cm and it's only an average size family van. (Swift Charisma 550) I also found that some don't tell you this unless you ask or it's in the small print. This could obviously cause problems if you did breakdown.

3. I believe you get what you pay for and I'd sooner pay a bit more for the piece of mind.

I'm covered with the AA for my UK breakdown cover but they really messed me about when I tried to extend to European cover. I'll be looking at taking my business elsewhere when the renewal is due even though they offered me the best deal when I took out the cover originally.

The AA restrict caravan/trailer length to 7m for European cover too.

I paid £45 from Adrian Flux insurance, took it out when renewing the car insurance, oh and that's for the year. - no more than 60 days in any one trip.

I know you get what you pay for, but in 25 years of going abroad I have never had to use a breakdown company yet. So if you are the sort of person who prepares well for your trip and you just want piece of mind,  knowing that you can call someone if it all goes pear shaped, give them a call.

The policy covers all the main things, roadside, recovery, hotel if can't repair .....and the rest.

You can't beat Green Flag for European cover. We broke down 2 years ago on the way back to the ferry and they were really helpful.  Very good service and at a reasonable price. I would recommend them to anyone.

I went  for Britannia as also needed to get the wifes car done, and as have small kids, went for the full package inc European cover. Think I paid £129 for everything.

If you want peace of mind go for Red Pennant. They are very good and will sort everything out for you if the worst happens.

Even for something simple like a new tyre which was difficult to find in France because of the size. One phone call and they found a tyre and made an appointment for me at a local tyre fitting centre! It's very good!
