Don't even take it with you! It's a whole new world without TV, British newspapers, or the latest depressing news. Try it, you'll find you have a much more relaxing holiday if you can't hear how bad the credit squeeze is getting, how much extra petrol costs, or how you'll have to find a huge amount extra to pay your mortgage.
who says i was goin on holiday... we are traveling for the next 2 year so a little sky wouldnt hurt,,..??????? any help still appreciated thanks...??????
60cm or even an 85 cm dish with an old sky box, get a freesat card from sky for 20 quid, it lasts for 3 years.. you get the basic channels and it should work in nothern spain. hope that helps.
Get one of those satellite dish in a suitcase kits. Occasionally pop up in Lidl or Aldi and you can get them from Maplin for around £70 less. See here.
You will also need a TV. That's it.
You will not be able to get the Sky channels with this, but you will be able to get all the BBC and ITV channels and loads of other English language channels as well as UK radio stations. You can take a Sky receiver and card with you, but as you are travelling for 2 years, I doubt you would want to pay for the subscription.
Dont you just love when you seek advice about Sky TV reception, you get the usual "leave the TV at home" quips ! It must be great to be able to pontificate and tell others how to enjoy their time !
Anyway, a Sky Digibox and at least a zone 2 (60cm) dish will suffice for Northern Spain. The further South you go, the bigger the dish required.
In my view (although I'll now get lambasted) the only good thing about the comaq ie. Lidl, Aldi, Maplins set up is the moulded case that it all comes with. You will need a bigger dish than the one supplied for Spain, so dont waste your money at the outset !
Not going to lambast you Ronnie, my fault for not reading OP properly and seeing that they are going to Spain. Suitcase jobby fine for UK and much of France (not med) and better with a sat finder with a good meter to peak the signal.
You can get a complete kit with a 60cm dish in B&Q for £60 Buy a packet of wingnuts for handyness in dismantiling the dish for storage in the van. You can pick up a tripod in Tesco (one of the big stores) for £10 and away you go. Buy a cheap compass to find the satellite, I've never used a sat finder yet and look at the link below to see what angle to point your dish. Alter drop down menue to Astra28.2E and on the other side the town you will be staying in. It says UK but you can put any town in you like. Watch for the flashing dot in the middle of the screen. You can click and drag the place you want onto this dot.

If you get a Free to Air satellite kit you don't even need to pay Sky £20.
