Hi, we are off to france to the Loire Valley for a week in August, and are looking for a site that is within walking distance of a town or large village to eat out in, and sample a bit of french wine without having to drive! Just wondered if anyone had any reccomendations? We have seen a couple of nice looking sites on here, but the english translation isnt great on some of them, and when it says 'close to town' i just wonder wether it is a bit further than we would want to walk!!
cheers
Tom

Camping De L'Etang within walking distance of Brissac sur Quince where there are at least two really good restaurants, site has its own vineyard plus a good vineyard selling direct just along the road. Massive pitches, good swimming pools very friendly site.

Tom - we went there last year, intending to stay 3 nights, ended up spending 10. Very good market in the town, we ate in 2 restaurants - Le Clemenceau in the main square and the pizzeria opposite the Chateau, both very good. Le Clemenceau was our favourite - very friendly people own it.
They have the biggest pitches we have ever seen on a campsite. Enjoy your trip.

Leila - there are supermarkets in Angers, about 7 kms away, and in Saumur - wee bit further away. We did most of our shopping in Brissac - superb butcher, small food store and really good weekly market on a Thursday. Just had one visit to Intermarche in Angers.
Enjoy your visit - we loved the area, in fact we are thinking of going back for a few days next year.
The municipals are usually within 1Km of town centre. Try the Tourraine tourist office on line & ask for a brochure. ( Could always go to Google translator) Try "Tourraine + tourism" as a web-search Loads of sites near the Loire, Indre & Vienne.
