Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
1996 we headed off to Frieburg but ended up at Lake Constance. A long drive but we had a terrfic time there. We stayed on the German side so as not to pay a Swiss vignette for the caravan, just bought one for the car. There is a lot to do from here it is a good location for touring. It is easy to get into Switzerland by lake ferry or you can drive there via a small section of Austria. Places of interest, Lindau, beautiful. Rhine Falls, spectacular and noisy. Neuschwanstein Castle at Fussen, a fairy tale. Mount Santis, Switzerland for a cable car ride and breathtaking views. The lake itself is huge and ferries ply up and down all day dropping you off at various resorts along the lake.
I remember doing the black forest as a teenager with mum and dad !! I do remember lots of forests, lovely campsites and heavy thunderstorms!!!! I would recommend it. Switzerland is lovely, get yourself off the interlaken and up the eiger and yungfrau mountains, brilliant. All the rest is as Harry B says above.
went last year - stayed at "staufan" campsite - great, pick the right time about start of october and you will get caught up with the yearly village fete - and what a fete - the whole town closes and changes the street, shops, houses, the whole place from the 21st century back to the beginning including EVERYONE gets dressed for that period, and lasts the whole weekend with prossessions, bands, speaches etc: DON'T FORGET THE CAMERA, and all of this to the backdrop of the black forest. of course there is the walks, the cycle path and the small train only running from 1 village to the next. you'll not be dissapointed

The Swiss don't pay to use their motorway as they go, instead they have a permit, called a vignette, which is a little sticker displayed in the car (and caravan) window. They are annual permits with no reductions for shorter stays. They can be purchased in this country before you go or alternatively they can be purchased at the border crossing into Switzerland.
