Has anyone stayed in a Campanile hotel - we are off to France tonight and as usual I left booking stuff to the very last minute - I can not get a cheap place eg formula 1 and can only find this chain with vacancies, which is quite cheap but not as cheap. Has anyone stayed with them???? what do you think??

Campanile are fine - en-suite rooms, which Formule 1 doesn't have - so you're paying a bit more, for more facilities.  Rooms are also a little more 'roomy'.   Breakfasts are also better - more choice.  Formule 1 just offers baguette, brioche, or croissant, jams, orange juice, and a drink - and only drinks from a machine outside hours - but at Campanile you're likely to get cheese, eggs, ham, fresh fruit and cereals or yoghurts as well.  It may cost you a euro or two more for breakfast, though.   I think (but might be wrong) that you can get coffee throughout the day, and eat anytime after lunchtimes (obviously you pay for this).

Campanile hotels are great, very much better than the Formule 1/Premier Classe types and in my opinion well worth the extra if it's for any more than an overnighter.

Agree with all the above, I worked for Campanile in the UK (quite a few years ago know) and they are much better quality than the really cheap places, nice atmospheres and lovely bufffets...go and enjoy!

They are very good. We use a Campanile when we arrive in France for the last 3 years it has been 68€ every year which we thought was a bit pricy at first. We use a Premier Inn (was Travel Inn) on the first night back in UK and it has gone from £59 to £95. More evidence of rip off UK! Unfortunately I left it too late to book an alternative. We need more French hotels here!

Most of the French hotels also appear to have locked car parks - don't often come across that here!

Yes, we love 'em too. They do a decent meal in the evening.

Yeah, when I worked for Campanile they seemed to have a plan for the domination of Great Britain, but I think they have only opened perhaps 3 more since I left. I dont know what changed their stratagy 'cos Premier Inn now seem to have the market cornered. I used Preier Inn  twice recently though, once in London and once near Silverstone and both times the price was £59 and free kids breakfasts too (U15 I think it was). Think you where just unlucky Mr Paul.

PS Fudge I stayed at the Bastille one in Paris too one Christmas, was very good and a great location

We've just had an Etap open near us - and it's £32 per night at the moment, which is a great deal - French prices, here at last!!!

That is good Val. I use the Ibis in Shipley when I am over there. Will give the Etap a try.

Take 'Canal Road' into Bradford, and the Etap is on your left as you get to the 'city' end before the road rises up towards Leeds Road.
